"Okay, I'm confused, how are they suppose to fight a hologram?" Webby asked, once she found her voice. She looked at the 'other,' Huey and Louie who were still standing, frozen in place. Not understanding what was happening.
Webby was sure they thought they'd be fighting some monster or animal of some sort, but then, the hologram of Dewey Duck appeared. Her heart ached as the memory of her Dewey being captured still fresh in her mind leaving her wounded to the point she hadn't even eaten or even drank anything since they gotten there.
"There are two kinds of healing." Ma Beagal told her, as she and Louie continued to stare out the glass window. "One, is the healing of the mind,"
Louie watched as the hologram expanded into a full out scene. His double slowly backed away as Huey just continued to stand there, watching as his hologram and Louie's came into view, then Webby's.
"The other," Ma Beagal continued as every turned their heads to the other side of the arena as Louie's double turned to run,
Webby heard the sound of metal scraping against the ground, and her heart skipped a beat as a Dewey bot came into view made out of the scrap metal from the junkyard. Though the Dewey bot had marble red eyes, they seemed to blaze into Louie's double who skidded to a stop and stared at the Dewey bot.
"is the healing of the heart." She finished.
Big Time put the microphone to his mouth and shouted.
"You shall not leave the arena," He looked towards Ma Beagal who nodded in approval, "until you have completed the battle." He told them.
"Battle?" Louie's double snapped loudly. "What kind of crazy hell mission is this?" He looked towards Ma Beagal his own eyes blazing into hers. "You crack pot, old cow, you set us up!" He shouted up at her.
"Battle of the heart and mind." Huey whispered, as Louie backed his way up to his as the Dewey bot got closer to them. It creaked and squeaked with each step and looked rather like it would fall apart at any minute. But Louie wasn't fooled. He'd dealt with enough robots in his life time to know never to let his gaurd down around one.
"What?" Louie snapped at him, and winced when he heard his holograms argueing with each other. Webby trying to get them to stop. Then, Huey pulling a gun on him and Dewey.
"This is a battle of the heart and mind." Huey repeated.
He couldn't take his eyes off the scene in front of him. Louie tensed up as the Dewey bot stopped abruptly a few feet in front of him, and lifted his arm at them.
"If that's true," Louie said, his voice breaking, "then we are never getting out of here."
Huey bit his bottom bill.
He; of couse, can handle the Dewey bot.
But what he couldn't handle was the fact that he was pratically reliving the nightmare of him shooting Dewey, watching him fall to the ground. Webby's screams, and Louie's angry punching kicking at him. Until Huey made a break for it, towards the edge of the scouting area.
His hologram looked back at the holographic Louie and Webby who was sobbing over Dewey's now motionless body while Louie narrowed his eyes over at him. The holograpic Huey looked quickly away from them as he disappeared into the nearby forest, without a second glance back.
A sudden blast made the hologram glitch and the real Huey ducked and whirled around just as another blast shot at him.
"Thanks for the warning." He snarled at Louie as Louie crouched down next to him. Louie looked at him sharply as the image of the hologram replayed Dewey's death as if it was put on an enternal loop.
Louie's head throbbbed with pain with each shot that holograpic Huey fired. His heart ached when he heard Webby sobbing. It only made him even more angry at Huey. What was the point in all this? To bring him even more pain then what he was already feeling?
He glared over at Huey.
This was all his fault. He thought darkly. Louie slowly got to his feet.
He was the one who shot Dewey. He was the one who betrayed them, and ran off to the other side. It was all Huey.
"Um. Louie -." Huey began, seeing the look on his face.
Whatever was going through Louie's mind right now, he couldn't do what he usual did in this type of situation.
Huey's heart pounded in his chest. The look his brother was giving him was a killer look, an evil look. He gulped and looked at the hologram again, it was right back to the sobbing Webby. Then he looked towards the box stand. Webby was staring at him, wide eyed, and with a scared look on her face.
He wasn't going to make her cry.
Not again.
Louie rushed at him, tackling him to the ground. The Dewey bot kept blasting at them as they rolled along the dirt ground, it gathered dust around them, and all Huey could see was tears falling down Louie's face, hear the crowd murmuring loudly and yelling irritably for not being able to see what was going on, and his heart felt like it was about to explode out of his chest by the guilt. He didn't know what to do except let Louie have it out with him while keeping the Dewey bot from killing the both of them.
"We have to get down there." Webby said, frantically. She whirled around to leave but Ma Beagal stood up and blocked her path. Webby looked up at her with her eyes brimming with tears. Louie saw that she was trembling, trying hard not to punch the nearest thing to her, which was him, at the moment as he came up beside her.
"You can not interfer." She told her firmly.
"But -." Webby said, desperatly.
"They need to deal with this on their own," Ma Beagal said, more gently. "Or all is lost. Our worlds. Them. You, and him," She looked at Louie and Louie saw Webby's face go ghostly white. She quickly grabbed his hand as if he'd disappear right then and there if she didn't. The images of her nightmares came creeping up on her.
"L,Lost?" She choked out.
Ma Beagal looked at Webby sadly. She hated being so harsh with the girl, but she had to know what was at stake. What they were fighting for.
Louie's bill tightened into a straight line as he slowly steered Webby back to her seat. He turned to get back into his but she held him back, not letting go of his hand. He looked at her and he could tell she was terrified.
Of what, he wished he knew.
Louie looked back down at the arena. He knew how Webby felt though. He wanted to help too. Didn't want to see himself fighting with Huey. He made a mental note to aplogoize to Huey once they get back home of all the fights he had started with him, and finished.
Huey; however, was feeling punch after punch as Louie's fists hit his face. On top of the bruised eye he had already given Huey a few hours ago, these punches hurt a lot worse. Could it be because he knew Huey deserved them?
Louie was panting hard, and snot was running down his nose as tears fell down his cheeks. What he had kept bottled up inside him all these years since Dewey died, finally got unleashed. He was about to throw more punches when the hologram changed it's scene and the Dewey bot stopped blasting long enough for the brother's to look over at it.
Huey's heart nearly stopped.
No. He thought. Please no. Anything but this...
The dust slowly began to disappear as Louie looked behind him, and froze.
It was Huey, curled up in a ball, rocking back and forth, and crying.
"Why the tears? Father?" Asked a disembodied voice.
But even if Louie couldn't see who was talking, he knew that voice. It was B.O.Y.D's voice. Of couse, a robot wouldn't know about emotions. Wouldn't understand why Huey was crying like a two-year-old. Louie slowly got up off Huey and walked on ahead of him until he stopped in front of the hologram.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing. This must be right after he shot Dewey. Right after he ran away and was never heard from again until the Originals came.
"I, I killed my brother!" Huey wailed, snapping Louie out of his bewilderment state of mind. He felt a lump form in his throat. He had never seen Huey act this way. Ever. "You told me that this was the only way to save us, to save him, from going through with the plan!"
He fell to his side, shaking uncontrolably.
"I asked, why the tears though." B.O.Y.D asked. "You should be proud of what you did. You saved us a lot of trouble when the time comes to -."
"I DON"T CARE!" Huey howled. "I WANT MY BROTHER BACK!"
Louie heard B.O.Y.D scoff and his footsteps fading away, then a door slam only to be opened again by someone else.
"Huey." Came a soft female voice this time.
It was Goldie.
But Louie could still only see Huey.
Huey didn't move, didn't even look up at whoever came in.
"You did the right thing, Huey." She said, softly. Huey remained silent and Goldie let out a huge sigh. "I know how you are feeling right now," She told him. Huey choked back a sob and buried himself in his sides. "You feel alone, guilty, ashamed, even angry with yourself. Right?"
Huey jerked his head in a nod.
"But all that will pass with time." She said. "As of now, though, you have been promoted to General and are in charge of making sure the operation runs smoothly."
"I -." Huey said, once he found his voice again. "I don't want -."
Suddenly the hologram shifted showing Goldie in her dictator uniform. She grabbed Huey by the shirt and slammed him up against the wall, her eyes blazing into his.
"Did I just hear the words 'don't want,?' She asked
She got so close to Huey's face that he shrunk back inside his shirt. His face red from crying, and his eyes blurry from tears. Louie's own heart pounded hard against his chest now. He had never seen Goldie before now and the way she looked was far worse then how he ever imaged she'd look. Goldie always prefered to work on her public duties away from the people and always had some sort of servent do it for her.
Mostly B.O.Y.D when he wasn't trying to torture Louie or capture Huey.
"You know what happens when someone says those words in front of me." She whispered at him. "Now I have to punish you, and if you think you can get out of working for us now, you can forget it. Wouldn't want anything to happen to the only brother you have left, now, would you?" Goldie asked in a fake sweet voice.
Huey opened his mouth to yell, scream, anything to be heard, but nothing came out, only whimpers as Goldie started dragging him towards what looked like a midevil torture device.
Luckily the holograpm died and Louie was free from seeing whatever Goldie had done to Huey back then. Huey was relieved by that. It was bad enough he still had nightmares about it, still felt the stings, the blows, and the pain from that day...
"Y,You stayed to protect me?" Louie asked, turning to Huey.
Huey stared at him.
The Dewey bot hadn't moved yet. Just stared at them, blankly, waiting.
Huey nodded weakly. He forced himself to his feet, ignoring the pain in his ribs, and legs. He glanced up at the top box. He was sure Webby was still watching. He wondered what she thought of him now. Even if it wasn't their Webby. This Webby meant a lot to him too.
"Y,You killed our brother, to, to protect him?" Louie asked. "Not because of me and Webby?"
Huey nodded again.
"You realized they were lying to you right?" Louie asked, anger rising up inside him again. Huey was suppose to be the smart one, he should have known they were lying!
"N,Not that the time I didn't!" Huey exclaimed. He saw the look in Louie's eyes again and the Dewey bot started up once more. Huey suddenly realized why it was here in the first place. He quickly looked over at Louie, as the Dewey bot lifted it's hand again. "Look, Louie. We, we have to put this behind us. Because it won't be just us effected by this, it'll be -."
But he didn't get a chance to finish because at that moment the Dewey bot blasted him in the back, making him gasp loudly and fell hard face first into the dirt.
Everything went utterly quiet.
Louie blinked, shocked by what had just happened. His anger suddenly faded as quickly as it came as he took a step, then another, then another before he started running. He slid across the dirt at his brother's body.
"H,Huey?" He asked, softly. He used a trembling hand and rolled Huey on his back. Huey didn't stir. "Huey!" He shouted out in panic.
Louie was so stupid. Why didn't he just forgive Huey? For once in his life suck it up and do what he was suppose to, for once?
The Dewey bot kept its arms out stretched and aimed at them.
Louie saw him barely breathing, and sighed deeply with relief.
He wasn't dead.
He wasn't dead!
But -.
Louie looked towards the Dewey bot and his heart sank. He knew what he had to do now. He looked up at the top box. What they would think of him afterwards though...
He slowly stood up, and walked up to the Dewey bot.
Webby quickly got up, and let go of Louie's hand as she slowly walked up to the glass her heart pounded hard against her chest. What was he doing? He wasn't doing what she thought he was going to do...
She watched the 'other,' Louie kick the Dewey bot hard to the ground. She watched Louie rib off the Dewey's aimed arm. He then tossed it aside and started with his other arm, then legs, until all that was left was the Dewey bot's head.
Louie watched in awe.
He did all that without a weapon of any kind.
Was he really that strong?
"He's like a artifical weapon, himself." He whispered. He glanced over at Webby. Did he happen to have taken lessons from her double? If that was the case, maybe he could...
"And the winners are the Dinomite Duos!" Big Time shouted into the microphone.
The Dewey bot went stone silent and Louie was trembling, snot still running down his nose, and he was crying. But he made himself walk back over to Huey and slowly knelt down beside him. So that was it. That was how Huey felt when he did what he did. Now he knew and he pomised himself that if they ever got out of this mess they were in, he'd give Huey the benifit of the doubt before always assuming the worst of him.
The Beagal crowd slowly started to clap, then clapped even harder as they stood up and cheered, no longer booing them.
Louie and Webby rushed out of the top box, without permission, and ran out onto the arena. Ma Beagal watched them rush up to Louie and Huey, and hugged them as Huey slowly opened his eyes and tried to stand, but Webby knocked him back to the ground as she tackled him back down into a hug.
"Hmmm." Ma Beagal muttered. "Perhaps all was not lost. Maybe they actually stood a chance." She said to herself.
Up ahead of the arena near the forest two pairs of eyes stared out of a pair of binoculars. They darted from the disemebered robot, to Huey, then to both of the Louie's.

                                                                                                        Somewhere far off....

"So, what's happening?" B.O.Y.D asked as he trudged himself up beside Webby. Who continued to stare at her Louie who she hadn't seen in five whole years.
"They just disembered a Dewey bot." Webby told him.
B.O.Y.D took the binoculars from her roughly and looked through them.
Webby fidgeted nervously. She didn't like the fact that Goldie had sent B.O.Y.D out with her to 'babysit,' she had hoped to warn Louie then head back before Goldie got suspsious. But as always, Goldie was always one step ahead of her.
B.O.Y.D scoffed.
"This is going to be fun." He said, a bit to eagerly, tossing the binoculars back at her. Webby cought them and glared over at him.
"Come on. Let's get this over with." Webby muttered and made her way down the hill towards the junkyard.
B.O.Y.D snickered and followed close behind her. How Huey could make a robot this intemidating she hadn't a clue. She hated B.O.Y.D with ever fiber of her being. She'd have half a mind to dismember him herself.
If she ever got the chance.
