"So, how are we doing this?" B.O.Y.D asked as they trudged down the hill towards the junkyard. It was just now getting dark and Webby had traded her binoculars for her night vision high tech goggled. This pair of goggles can not only see the heat waves of a person, but it can also pin point where they are at. Almost like a virtual reality map.
"You take your Louie and I'll take -." B.O.Y.D continued.
Webby stopped short, and took off her goggles and narrowed her eyes at him.
"I am not even going to interact on this mission. B.O.Y.D." She fumed. "I know this is punishment for me more then anything after what happened -." She stopped, as a lump formed in her throat. She knew it was a risk when she asked Dewey about Louie. She knew what would happened with her, her Granny, and even Louie if she went through with it. She thought she had been being discreet when she asked him about Louie.
But the aching in her heart out weighed those risks. She couldn't stand not knowing for to much longer, and Goldie had been able to see right through her.
"And that's why I am here," B.O.Y.D interupted, "to make sure you do interact."
Webby blinked hard to keep the tears from falling.
"Wouldn't be much of a punshiment if you didn't, now, would it?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. Webby closed her eyes, and looked away from him.
After five years of not seeing Louie, as her punishment, she'd have to betraye him. Her stomach tightened as B.O.Y.D pushed her roughly foward down the hill. She moved her legs but they felt like led to her with every step.
She dreaded seeing the smiling face he'd show when finally seeing her, the it slowly fading into a look of hurt and dismay. Her heart pounded hard against her chest as they made it down the base of the hill. She wanted to run. Run and never look back. But she couldn't not with her Granny being held hostage, and Dewey now in chains.
She didn't know how much longer the Original's can stay in this world without going through the partical combustion and Louie, Louie's curse. The one Webby had unleashed when Lena got killed.
How much more time did he have before -.
"Get you're ass our of your ears, Webbigail." B.O.Y.D hissed making her jump. "It's show time." He nodded towards the trailer where everyone was gathered around, the front of it, sitting in long tables, eating and drinking.
Both Louie's, Webby, and Huey at the front center of the wooden tables looking rather flushed and embarrassed by the praises, complments, and the reviews of the battle. There was an entrence lit by two torches in front of the 'other,' Webby. Webby hung back from them enough for the other's not to see her until B.O.Y.D pushed her roughly into the light.
The 'other,' Louie had been laughing and talking lively with Huey and Webby but stopped when he noticed her.
He slowly stood up, not taking his eyes off her, making his double, Huey, and Webby looked over at him in alarm. Webby saw his face. It was the look of disbelief.
"L,Louie what's -." Webby asked.
Then she followed his gaze towards the enternce, and her heart skipped a beat. She saw herself, standing there, staring at them.
Webby thought she'd be overjoyed for them, but something wasn't right. The way her double wasn't looking at Louie's made her uneasy.
She looked over at him as he slowly started coming out from behind the table. Ma Beagal, and the other's looked on, as Ma Beagal squinted at the 'other,' Webby from her front porch. She too, had a bad feeling about the sudden appearence of Webbigail Vanderquack.
"W,Webby." The 'other,' Louie breathed.
He started for her but Huey quickly jumped up from his chair and grabbed his arm. Louie glared at him sharply.
"I, I don't think you should -." Huey began.
"What?" Louie snapped at him, "you my brother's keeper now?" He asked, jerking his arm away. "I haven't seen her in over five years Huey!" He hissed angerliy at him.
"Ask youself why?" Huey shot back at him.
Louie blinked.
"W,Why?" He repeated, then looked back over at her. He saw her staring straight ahead, not even looking at him. "I don't need to ask why!" He said, turning back to him, he pushed Huey making him fall to the ground hard, he turned and started going towards his Webby again as his double quickly went over to help him up.
"Louie, please!" Webby said, she darted out from the other side of the table and grabbed his hand, and squeezed it tightly making Louie pause and force himself to look at her. Webby had a bad feeling about this too. Something was wrong. Very, very wrong. Why did her double suddenly show up after all these years?
"Listen to Huey. Don't throw away what you two just acomplished!" She pleaded.
"I, I'm sorry, Webby. You can't ask me too, not after all these years." He glanced back at his double then at her. "What if he went missing for five years?"
Webby glaced back at her Louie. The nightmares rushing in on her, making it hard for her to breath as she looked back at his double.
Louie looked back at her sadly.
"Please, Webby. I, I need to do this." He pleaded.
Webby slowly removed her hand from his and dropped it at her side. Tears in her eyes, making Louie's heart sink deep within' his chest.
He pulled out something, small, and black out from his jacket and handed it too her. Webby looked down at it.
It was the traveling box that brought them here. She looked back up at him with a confused, and hurt look on her face. Why was he giving her this?
"Keep it safe." He said. "Don't let anything happen to it. Find your Dewey, and get home safely..." Webby shooked her head from side to side.
"Please, Louie -." She tried again, as she tried giving the box back. No matter how much she wanted to go home. She can't leave him like this, vanurable, and, and...
Weak.
It just wasn't Webby to do that to a friend.
"J,Just count this, as my third strike. Okay?" He said, and slowly backed away from her and ran towards Webby without a second glance back.
Third strike? Webby thought as she watched the 'other,' Louie run up to his Webby. Webby didn't want him to even have any strikes against him with her. Didn't want to think of a worthy punishment if he ever got to the third strike.
But he had, and he did.
Now, Webby felt like she was being swallowed up by the black box, even though she hadn't even opened it. She couldn't breath, couldn't move as she heard Louie said,
"Webbs!" He gushed when he got close enough to through his arms around his Webby. He squeezed her tightly then noticed she was pratically trembling. It wasn't a cold night, in fact, it was a rather warm.
He pulled away to look into her face and saw tears.
Tears?
It was the tears that gave her away. She didn't like to have other's see her cry. Not even Louie. He knew that, and as he stared into her watery eyes he started to back away from her. She reached out for him but he just kept getting furthur and furthur away from her. Always out of her reach, ever since this all began...
"Do it." Came B.O.Y.D's voice from behind her thrusting something in her hands as he came into full view. Smiling slyly at the look of dismay on Louie's face. "Now." He hissed at her.
"No." He whispered, he stared at the object in her hands. It was a teaser gun. The higher tech one with the three prongs and a laser pointer.
His heart pounded hard against his chest.
"Webby wasn't herself." His double had told him.
Louie slowly started to back away.
"Something in her has changed." His own voice echoed inside his mind and Louie couldn't tell if it was him realizing it or his double's voice reminding him.
It's the curse. Louie thought to himself. It had to be part of his curse. It hadn't taken full effect yet, but he could feel it coming and had hoped he'd be alone when it started. But this, this could just be part of it, right? If it was, then it was the worse part the curse had ever inflicted on him since it had been unleashed.
"L,Louie I, I'm sorry." Webby whispered.
She raised a trembling hand towards Louie as the laser rose up towards his chest. Louie stood. Frozen in place. Staring at her with that look that she hope to never, ever see again. She took a step foward making all the Beagal's including Big Time, and Ma Beagal stand up, ready to defend themselves, and the other's. But before anyone could do anything Webby pointed the gun straight at where Louie's heart should be, where he kept hers, and pulled the trigger.
Huey, Webby, and the 'original,' Louie watched as his double fell hard to the ground as the teaser gun hit him square in the chest. He went down, and Huey, Webby, and the 'original,' Louie watched as if in slow moiton as his double slammed hard to the ground.
His eyes stared up at Webby in shock, more so then the teaser gun. He felt numb. His mouth felt dry, and his vision was blurry.
Huey made a mad dash from him. But Webby held him back, she was so caught up in protecting Huey that she couldn't stop the second blur of green rushing past her at Webby and B.O.Y.D. She whirled around, and shouted,
"Louie! NO!"
Louie skidded to a stop and looked back at her just at her double pointed the gun at him too and pulled the trigger. The 'orignal,' looked at Webby in shock before falling hard to the ground next to her.
Webby quickly put the traveling box in her backpack, and started for Louie. But it was Huey's turn to hold her back. Webby glared at him sharply.
"We have to go. Now." He said, grabbing her arm.
"Are you crazy? I can't leave him!" Webby said as he started pulling her along just as a dozen or so Huey bots came pouring into the junkyard behind B.O.Y.D who was carrying both Louie's over his shoulder now.
"Yes." Huey said, pulling her closer to him so that she could see the determination in his eyes. "You can."
"But -." Webby tried again, her heart pounding hard against her chest. She looked back behind her as the Huey bots started fighting with the Beagal boys. Ma Beagal jumped down off her porch in front of her and Huey.
"You two better get going." She told him, tossing Huey's gun she had taken away from him before heading off to the Pit, back to him. "We'll hold them off as long as we can..."
"What about -." Huey said.
"He'll meet you back at his place." Ma Beagal told him.
Webby saw the blood drain from Huey's face.
"What are you -?" She tried to ask but a blast barely missed her ear making Huey haul her out of the junkyward as quickly as she could. Webby stared behind her as she watched her double, B.O.Y.D and the two Louie's disappear into the night as tears threatened to fall from her eyes for the second time that day.
