"Alex!" I turned to see Sophie and a blonde girl I didn't recognise coming towards me in the now emptying hallway. I shut my locker and smiled nervously at Sophie.

"Hi." I said quietly and Sophie smiled at the girl next to her.

"Dianna, this is Alex Evans. Alex, Dianna Morris; she's new." Sophie introduced us and Dianna smiled at me.

"I've heard a lot about you." She said teasingly, her voice thick with a British accent.

"Well I'd say 'all good I hope' but I guess we all know it's not too flattering." I smiled and she laughed.

"Oh yeah, because twig bitches like Krista always tell the truth." I laughed at that and Sophie pulled out her phone.

"Mom's waiting, I'll see you guys tomorrow." She grabbed her bag and hurried down the hall, leaving Dianna and I.

"So, how do you know Sophie?" Dianna asked as we started to walk slowly towards the doors.

"Seventh Grade, we were in the same class and... yeah. How bout you?"

"School council, honestly I'd love to be Class President but nobody knows me." I raised an eyebrow.

"Sophie's going to win. Hands down, she's basically got valedictorian in the bag."

"What's valedictorian? I know what Class President is from movies and stuff, but there's never a valedictorian." She asked and I laughed.

"Okay, you know in High School Musical 3; Troy's the one who makes the speech at graduation?" She nodded and so did I. "Well, Troy was valedictorian. The Valedictorian is normally someone with a high grade point average and extra curricular activities. AKA not me." She laughed as we reached the parking lot and I steered her towards Hailee's Diner.

I went there a lot.

"You all have a list on the desk in front of you full of the most influential people in history. Pick one, and you'll have three days to do a presentation about their lives and how they were influential. Partner up, I want boys and girls, and you can work on it for the last 10 minutes of this lesson. Good luck." Mrs Stonekeld, my Psychology teacher, announced and I skimmed the list in front of me.

Jesus Christ

Albert Einstein

Isaac Newton

Aristotle

Charles Darwin

Adolf Hitler

Mahatma Gandhi

Socrates

Julius Caesar

Nelson Mandela

Plato

My eyes flicked over the pairing up classroom and I looked back at the paper, waiting for the last guy to get stuck with me.

"Alex, partner up." Mrs Stonekeld called out and I looked up to see everyone was paired up, not a single person spare.

"There's an odd number." I answered as the door opened.

"Mr Langhurst, nice of you to join us. Alex will explain the assignment to you." My eyes flew up in shock and darted between Adam and Mrs Stonekeld.
