I opened my eyes to see a bright light with a young woman staring down at me. At least, I think it was a younger lady. I couldn't really make out her facial features all too much, as the lights made her glow as if she was some sort of angel. Wait, maybe she was an angel. I stare in aww at her face wondering where I am. Am I dead? Is this heaven?
Suddenly becoming aware of movement I bring my gaze down to her lips and realize she is saying something, but I can't hear her.
If this is heaven, why the heck is there no sound?!
I decide to lift my head in order to be closer to her, but I instantly regretted that decisions as I allow my head to fall back into the pillow in extreme pain.
The woman turned and I believe she yelled something, for a group of people randomly began to swarm into my room.
What the heck is going on and why can't I hear anything! Who are these people?
The young angel woman held my shoulders steady as an older gentleman began removing something from around my head.
As I watched them remove the white fabric, sounds slowly began to make their way to my ears and become louder and louder. Finally they removed what looked like ear plugs from my ears and the whole world suddenly became alive with sound, beautiful deafening sound.
"Hello, Taylor." The older man's deep voice vibrated. "We were hoping you'd wake up sometime soon. Your family had been rather worried about you the last couple of weeks."
A couple weeks, what the bloody was he talking about?
He answered my silent question by stating, "You've been in a coma for about 2 & 1/2 weeks."
You have got to be kidding me! Another coma, really?! Seriously what am I Snow White on Once Upon a Time with all those sleeping curses and memory loses?! Like how often does an non-athletic teenager end up with two comas in a matter of three years?
Wait a minute, why had I been in a coma?
"Um Doctor. What happened? Why was I in a coma? Where is my Mom?"
"Do you not remember anything that happened?" The Doctor asked looking at the nurses around him with an expression I can't read.
"No...why? What happened? What aren't you telling me! Where is my mother?! Is she ok?!!" I yelled at the Doctor as I felt my stomach drop lower and lower with a sickening feeling that something was wrong.
"Your. Mother. Is. Fine. She did however have to start her chemo treatment while you were in your coma. But she's responding great so far to the treatment and with very little side-effects! After all, she's always been a fighter, you both have. She's in another wing of the hospital and you'll be able to visit her soon. She'll be so excited to know you woke up!" Dr. Shaw told me with a smile that I noticed didn't quite meet his eyes.
"So she's ok? You're telling the truth?" I sternly demand with every ounce left in my being.
"Yes." He answers looking me straight in the eyes.
I sigh a huge sigh of relief realizing that he was in fact telling the truth. And yet, I still can't get that sinking feeling out of my stomach that something is seriously wrong.
"Ok, so if my Mom is fine, what aren't you telling me?" I calmly ask without breaking eye contact.
His eyes wavered for a moment and he scratched his neck, before he looked back at me and said,
"It's your friend Grace....She was shot."
And that's when I officially lost it.
