Rina POV
I sat by mistress' side as she recovered from the incident in the Great Hall. In all my years as a servant I have never seen such thing in my life. However, Lady Gilthoniel was not just a person that have walked through Kattegat. She was an elfin princess from a mysterious land that I have only heard about as a child. A land that no ordinary man would dare to journey to. Only the special ones were able to step between both worlds and one of those beings was my Lady. As I sat there by her side, I placed my hand over hers, comforting her as she regains her strength.
"I pray that my Gods bless you, My Lady. That they will give you the strength that you need to wake up from your slumber" I whispered to her.
*A few days later*
Three days have passed since the incident in the Great Hall with Margrethe and her failed poisoning of my Lady. The princes along with their mother visit Princess Gilthoniel whenever they can. They often re-told stories of their past raids and battles as well as, the grand stories they have heard from merchants and foreign warriors that come ashore. Especially Prince Ivar who silently sits beside her at night, telling her all the days events and the troubles he has with the most ignorant of Kattegat. He often spoke tenderly to her as he held her hand. It was an image no one in Kattegat get to ever see of the young prince except for his mother, Floki and now me. Although I am a servant, a rank below royalty I was pretty much invisible to them. No one acknowledged my presence except for Gilthoniel. She was the most radiant woman I have ever seen and the most kind. It was not hard to love her. And I pray daily to the Gods every single night to wake her from her sleep.
I check upon her daily to see if, her condition has changed since then. And I would have to say that her health has greatly improved. Her eye no longer flickered erratically like the did before which, could mean that whatever is going on in her mind had calmed down. It was easy for me to see that whatever that other person was that day was not of the light. It was pure evil. I could tell that My Lady had struggled keeping it at bay for most of her life. However, long that may be.
As for Margrethe she has been in a prison cell awaiting the moment that the Jarl that the princes had sold her to come. I have heard from the prison guards and other servants around the palace that she yells and screams every night for the princes. Except for Ivar. She and him never had gotten along simply due to the fact he had never fallen for her tricks. However, I still question his sanity when he wanted to bed the cruel girl. She along with the help of his own brothers and other servants had spread a vile rumor about him soon after that. It was safe to say that Margrethe was a manipulative bitch. She never kind or useful when she began serving here. All she ever spoke of was becoming a free woman and marrying one of the princes. She never hid the fact that she wanted money and power. It was a God send that Gilthoniel had arrived at the palace when she did. Otherwise, Margrethe would have gotten what she wanted much sooner.
I sighed in disappointed when one of the senior servants had told me it was my turn to serve the abandoned thrall her lunch.
"Don't worry Rina. That vile girl is not going to be here any longer. From what I have heard the Jarl that she is being sold to is coming today. She will be out of our hair soon enough", the woman patted my shoulder than, placed the tray of chicken soup and bread, "Just place the food in the middle of the room and leave as soon as possible. Make sure the guard is watching you as, you do so. We don't want her to escape", advised the woman.
I sighed once again. "You're right Mage. I will just get this done and over with. It is almost time for me to check up on the princess", I replied.
As I was about to turn away with Margrethe's food in hand Mage stopped me once again.
"Also, make sure the guard that is with you is a shieldmaiden. Margrethe has been trying to seduce the male guards to let her out since, she first arrived", said Mage.
I simply nodded before, continuing my way to the prison.
