Chapter 2

Just after all my books fall to the ground, I look up and of course it's none other than the new kid himself.

All eyes were on us now, and we were mere inches apart. I was in awe as I took in his features.

He had these cute little dimples that came out whenever he started talking and there were adorable little beauty marks all over his face. I was staring for so long I didn't realize that he had spoken to me.

I shake myself out of my daze as he says "Hello, anyone there?" quite rudely while waving a hand in front of my face.

The kids around us in the hallway start to snicker and whisper to each other.

"What" I say in a hushed voice. I thought he didn't hear me when there was no answer for a few seconds and things started to get awkward.

That was until he said "I asked you what your problem was" in a cold tone.

"I don't have a problem and maybe you should watch where you're going smartass" I say hoping to redeem myself.

I begin picking up my books when I hear him say "whatever" and walk away.

Who does he think he is? Of course he didn't even stop to help and just kept walking. I cannot let myself get involved with this guy. He's an asshole and is just bad news. He is the kind of guy that breaks hearts and doesn't really care how he makes people feel.

I finish picking up my books and the crowd in the halls starts to die down. I look up with a scowl and see him turning the corner down the hall surrounded by girls as if he were a celebrity.

I shake off my anger, and focus on getting to history class on time.

I begin stomping down the hallway when Krista comes up to me. Thankfully, we have most of our classes together this year.

"Hey, I saw what happened, are you ok?" she asks

"Of course Krista, I just got knocked down on the first day by the world's biggest douche and instead of helping me, he just walked away. So yeah I'm totally fine."

"Well he's a total ass but he probably won't bother you again don't worry" Krista states.

"Yeah you're right" I say with a sigh, but I had a feeling that avoiding Dylan would not be as easy as Krista said.

We turn into our history class, and of course, there he is getting introduced by the teacher. Everyone in the room is staring at him like they were star struck. Hell, even the teacher was! She then sends him to a desk in the back.

Krista runs over and sits next to Carlos, leaving only one desk, right next to Dylan.

I look over at her squinting my eyes with my mouth slightly parted and she mouths "sorry." Aren't my friends just great?

I suck in a breath of air and slowly walk to the back. He sees me coming and looks me up and down then rolls his eyes.

Just as I sit down, the teacher says "Get comfortable with this seating arrangement, because you will be here for the rest of the year, and you will be completing a month long project with the person sitting next to you!"

I close my eyes and scrunch my nose in disgust, then turn to look at him. Just as I do he starts with his smartass comments again.

"You know I am not big on this whole project thing, especially when I have to work with a klutz"

"Excuse me? You don't know me, how dare you say something like that! Also I'm not getting a bad grade on this project because you're too lazy to do anything with yourself."

He looks down and it looks almost as if he is smirking for a second. As he looks back up he slowly scans my face and says "No one likes a rude girl, so maybe you should calm down babe" and then winks at me.

Oh hell no. I don't know why that wink made my heart flip, but the words that came out of his mouth stopped me from feeling anything other than disgust. I wasn't going to let him get away with that.

"Look, I think it's clear that we're not the biggest fans of each other, but you are going to work on this project and we are going to get a good grade, if it's the last thing I do. And don't call me babe again"

"Well alright then, boss," he says with a smug grin

The teacher catches us talking and says "Dylan and Marina, is there a problem?"

"Nottt attt allll" I say drawing out my words and the teacher continues on describing the project.

Of course the time when there's a huge project that requires the most work this happens to me.

Our teacher even said it would be very wise to work outside of school too, otherwise we might run out of time. Figures, this happens to me with the worst person in the school.

When the bell rings, Dylan almost runs out of the class, but I catch up to him making sure to let him know this grade is important.

"Hey slow down!" I yell

"What do you want?"

I roll my eyes but continue talking, "We need to start working on this today. I want to get this done sooner rather than later and I don't care how much you protest "

"Fine, give me your phone number and your address." We quickly exchange numbers and he begins to walk away when I yell "4 o'clock after school this Friday my house!"

"It's a date!" He says, his words dripping with sarcasm

I smile back fakely and walk away. He's a real asshat, but for some reason I kept thinking about him.

The rest of the week went by fast, and Dylan and I only talked in class. He was a bit better to me than the first day but still annoying.

Most of the time though, he was with the populars and I would watch from a distance.

The last bell on Friday finally rings and I get home quickly. I change into grey sweatpants, put on a black short sleeve crop top, and put my hair in a messy bun. I realize how dirty my room is so I start to clean it up and blast my pop playlist.

A while later, I check the time and see it's ten minutes after four. He was supposed to be here already and he didn't send me any message saying that he would be late.

After another five minutes, I'm sure he's not going to show up but just when I go to dial his phone, the door bell rings.

I slowly open the door and he's standing there with that all too confident smirk.

He's wearing a tight fitting long sleeve black t-shirt which shows off his amazing body and I can't help but feel a bit flustered.

We stand there for a while until he finally breaks the silence and says "So... are you going to let me in or are we working on the project right here?"

"Right, my bad" I say and I feel my cheeks heating up.

What's wrong with you? Snap out of it!

He steps in and is right in front of me, so close that I catch his scent of axe deodorant and mint gum.

I feel his intense gaze on me, but I can't look him in the eye. Instead I stare at the ground and bite the inside of my cheek.

"Are you ok Marina? You look a little bit... nervous" he says, deliberately trying to get under my skin.

I take a step back and think to myself, this is going to be a long night.
