'helena, do you fancy coming over to mine to watch the dortmund game tonight?' siobhan's voice echoed through the crackly phone line.
'siobhan, i know you have this strange idea that i can be converted into some sort of crazy football fan, but i've already watched three games with you and found them all unspeakably dull.'
'aww, come on!' came the exasperated reply, 'i know you'll come round eventually. besides, this game is a big one, it's the derby!'
helena sighed, 'ok, but only if we get chinese.' 'definitely!' siobhan responded excitedly, 'see you later!'
and so, that evening, helena found herself once again flopped aimlessly on siobhan's sofa, face-deep in a plate of chow mein, watching some dull german match build-up.
'look, it's the players!' siobhan cried excitedly, pointing to the screen as the camera panned to the pitch, where both teams stood warming up, one in dark blue and the other in bright, eye-catching yellow.
'that's gio reyna!' siobhan pointed out one player in particular, 'he's only seventeen, the youngest player in the squad.'
but helena was interested in him for a different reason.
'it's him,' she murmured, 'he's the one i've been seeing in my daydreams.'
