gio had always thought his family was a little off the wall, but after meeting kat's family and her roommates he began to realise that a little crazy was normal.

erin had been turned into a football fan by kat, so watched some of dortmund's games and delighted in asking him all about what the players were like in real life. rose spent most of the time laughing about how kat and gio had met because of kat's fanfiction, while imogen was in no way a football fan and preferred to just quiz gio on his favourite foods.

when it came to the bouthiers, they were all big dortmund fans so naturally they were delighted that their daughter was now dating the young american, and gio found them very welcoming and friendly.

stephen, kat's father, sat down with gio to have a long conversation about dortmund and their chances for the title, while her older brother alex insisted in taking the american for a kick-about in a nearby park.

kat's sister jen didn't talk too much, but she did insist he tell her all about what it was like playing for dortmund and whether mats hummels really was that hot in person. as for kat's mother helena, she treated gio just the same as the rest of the family, and regarded him with her usual dreamy, far-away demeanor.

''so what do you think?' kat asked a couple of days later as the pair walked through the town centre, hand-in-hand. kat was showing gio around where she lived and the pair were visiting a few of her favourite places.

'it's so awesome being here.' gio responded, 'your family are so cool. i can see where you get it. and your roommates are the best.'

kat blushed a little, 'they're completely off the wall, but it makes for some good stories.'

as it happened, gio was subjected to a prime example of this later that evening. jen and alex had teamed up with rose to set up a game night, which, although fun at first, very quickly descended into chaos.

'hey!' erin screamed in the middle of a particularly intense monopoly game as she landed on yet another of jen's hotels, 'you can't do that, you're cheating!'

'how the hell is that cheating? i'm just an astute businesswoman.' jen yelled back.

'it so is cheating!' erin yelled, waving her arms around and accidentally-on-purpose taking out half the monopoly board. monopoly money and figurines went flying all over the room, sliding under the couch and hitting mad-eye as he napped in his basket.

'i think,' gio murmured as mad-eye leapt up with a shriek and pounced on him, 'i will stick to uno.'
