it was a well-known fact that kat's bed was the most comfortable in the apartment. it was the only reason mad-eye had allowed kat to share his room (erin shared it too because she fed him) and he often made use of the soft bedding and springy mattress for naps or games of hide-and-seek.

today, kat was sitting at one end of the bed (mad-eye was dozing at the other) talking to her phone. mad-eye didn't recognise the voice emanating from the device but it seemed to be someone kat knew well. mad-eye opened one eye and half-listed to the conversation.

'you played so well today!' she was gushing. mad-eye rolled his eyes, 'you and erling are amazing together.'

the person on the other end said something in response, but it was drowned out as the door banged open and rose, erin and imogen burst in. mad-eye jumped, frightened by the sudden noise, but imogen hurried over and gave him a hug. he glared at the others from the girl's arms, but they didn't even look at him, to his irritation.

'gio!' erin yelled.

'the american dream!' chimed in rose.

'hi.' imogen muttered.

'hey guys.' the unfamiliar voice spoke, 'nice of you to invade the peace we had here.'

'peace?!' rose spluttered, 'have you met kat?' there was a burst of laughter. kat glared playfully at them.

mad-eye wriggled out of imogen's arms, deciding to get a look for himself at this strange person.

a laugh preceded the surprised exclamation, 'hello! you must be mad-eye?' on the screen was a boy with brown hair and a playful smile. his eyes scrunched up as he smiled, and he spoke in an accent not dissimilar to that of kat and rose.

mad-eye decided he approved. he settled himself down in kat's lap, making sure he was in full view of this 'american dream' person.

'good to see mad-eye approves.' erin giggled. the three girls had gotten comfortable around kat, making it clear they were here to stay. mad-eye guessed kat was not getting any more time to herself with this odd person.

[it won't work if mad-eye disapproves.]
