Roni pov
My eyes can't focus. My surroundings are blurred together; White. Everything looks white. I feel my body let go, and I crash into the ground on my hands and knees. Grass; I feel grass. I clench my fist with a hand full of green nature and hold onto the familiar feeling that's keeping me grounded. My hands are stinging, but the tears that flow down my face feel like acid. As if the pain brought my soul back into my body, I open my eyes once again to assess my surroundings.
I lazily lift my my hands off the ground to help my eyes focus better. As my lenses zoom in and out, It's finally clear. I hold my palms in front of me and I see...blood. Lots of it.
I shake my head as if I'm not seeing this correctly. I redirect my focus, then back to my hands. No changes. Blood. More blood. I do that several times because my eyes have to be deceiving me, but still. no. changes. My hands start to shake in fear as I let out helpless whimpers.
???: C'mon, let's get you out of here...A sweet voice whispers to me
I jump at her hands being placed on the side of my body, attempting to lift me up. Her voice broke the wall that plugged my ears, and all the noise came rushing in. Murmurs, footsteps, the calls of owls waking up from their sleep...everything just sounds cluttered. How did I not notice it before? The crowd. The bodies. The warmth.
I finally accepted the help and stood up. I felt as if bricks were holding my back down and my exhausted body couldn't handle the pressure. Suddenly, two bodies are by my side, not letting me fall.
???: We got to sneak her back into the cabin and clean her up. I hear one of the girls whisper
??: It's passed curfew, so we have to be careful. Another girl responds
????: Roni? Are you okay? A familiar voice asks me
Roni: N-nessa?
Nessa: Yeah...it's me and Lauren.
Roni: W-hat happe--
My words got caught in my throat when I saw people surrounding a blonde girl sitting on a log nearby; I glance as if everything was in slow motion. She was wearing an over sized grey t-shirt that said "Patagonia" in bright white. My heart starts racing. She was holding her face, crying. A gush of blood runs down her forehead, creasing past her temple, down to the side of her cheek. Pockets of blood surround her eyes and her purple, bruised lips catch my attention the same time as her eyes hit mine.
Cindy.
I stumble as Lauren's foot gets caught on a tree stump.
Lauren: Sorry!
With my attention averted, we walk down the trail heading back to the cabins. I glanced back one last time before turning the corner...
...Patagonia
We successfully arrived in our cabin. Our room door creaked creating a earthquake in our minds
Nessa: Crap!
Lauren: It's fine. Everyone's in their rooms.
We enter, and two heads spring in our direction.
Sydney: Where have you guys bee--
Silence towered over us. I meet Sydney's eyes and they're held tight on me. I glance at Franny, and she's mirroring Sydney's actions. Their faces seem to be looking at a ghost as their rosy color disappears.
Franny: W-what happened? Franny hesitantly asks
Nessa: Let's just get you cleaned up in the washroom...
They dragged me to the dark washroom. I slump my hands on the counter and start breathing in and out; I do this when I start to feel anxious. Somebody flips the light switch and blinds my vision. I rub my eyes and exhale as I remove them to look at myself in the mirror. With the girls standing behind me in the mirror, they all look at each other cautiously not saying a word.
My bun is falling out of place and Aaron's favorite shirt that he gave me after our swim is covered in grass stains. There's a scratch beginning on the hood of my nose to my cheek. Not as bad as Cindy's I thought. All there is left to notice is the exhaustion in my face and swollen eyes from crying. But, my hands. My hands are bruised under the blood and dirt that covers them.
Roni: D-did I do this? Did I do that to....Cindy?
No one says anything. Sydney and Franny both look more confused than me, but Nessa and Lauren? They seem to be stuck. They look at each other and sigh
Nessa: ...yeah...you...
Roni: I WHAT?
Nessa: Y-you did that to Cindy.
...to be continued.
