"welcome to the launch of my new bikini line!" aera beamed with joy as she stood in front of her celebrity friends. they were all watching her with smiles.

she continued by saying, "i hope you all have a great night and make sure to drink as much as you can!" the crowded cheered along with her, raising their glasses in the air. aera proceeded to stroll through each cluster of people, having delightful chats about their life.

i watched her cautiously, occasionally taking small sips from my glass of orange juice. i watched her every moment, the way she laughed with her friends, how she touched them tenderly, the way her eyes lit up. everything about her was perfect, she was perfect.

my train of thoughts got interrupted when someone tapped my shoulder. i turned my head to see who and i was shocked. my eyes widened as a smile grew on my face.

"jin?" i said, completely at awe with the presence of my friend, who looked dashing in his grey suit which complimented his handsome face.

"long time no see, taehyung," he said, bringing his hand out. i returned the handshake and nodded, replying, "yeah, it has. how have you been?" he shrugged in response, looking tiredly at his drink.

"same old. been quite busy with training. the agency still won't recruit me," he said, looking a little down. i frowned with him, knowing how hard jin worked in training. we trained together for years before i passed my course. but the company decided not to recruit jin as of yet. i knew he was ready, he was better than me at this whole bodyguard thing. i just got lucky, i guess.

"they'll accept you soon, jin. don't worry," i assured him.

he nodded, looking back up at me with a devilish smile. i raised an eyebrow, saying, "what."

"heard you got assigned to miss diva."

the corners of my mouth drooped at the mention of aera. he waited for my response, looking at me with a smile.

"she's a lot to handle?" he asked.

i let out a breath, looking over to see aera chatting with a new group of people.

"you have no idea," i uttered quietly, watching as the said figure turned around, meeting eyes with me. she made her way towards me, looking at me with a glare. she then turned to jin who stood next to me.

"who's your friend, taehyung?" she asked while looking at jin. she smiled at him, swirling the contents of her drink.

"kim seokjin," he replied with a smile.

Aera giggled and started rubbing small circles on my back. I mentally rolled my eyes and tried moving away from her touch. She asked him, "You're a friend of Taehyung?"

"We used to work together," Jin replied as Aera raised an eyebrow. She's acting weird, probably thinking of a plan to make me angry.

"Ah, okay, that makes sense. You're a bodyguard too?" Aera asked as Jin nodded with puckered lips. "Weird, I wonder why Jaeho didn't assign you instead." I turned to look at her, she wore an evil smirk on her face as she bluntly betrays me. I already know where this is going.

"are you working right now?"

stop talking, aera.

"not right now," jin replied with a hazy smile.

don't leave me, aera.

"that's good," aera replied, moving towards him and linked his arm with hers. "how about we have a drink?" she whispered into his ear, making sure i didn't hear her.

Seokjin looked at me for approval, I didn't respond and kept a straight face. After a few moments of silence, Seokjin turned to Aera and nodded, "Sure, let's go." I furrowed my eyebrows and eyed him with uncertain eyes. Seokjin avoided my eyes and instead started leading Aera through the crowd.

"Thanks because I'm the only one in the room who needs protection," I heard Aera say as walked away. She looked at me over her shoulder and gave me a sly smile. My eyes trained on their linked arms, nothing made me more furious. I clenched my fists together and walked away.

This place was too suffocating, I need to get out. Sliding the glass door, I stepped out onto the balcony. I viewed the forever stretching ocean as the chilling winds rushed through me.

although loneliness consumed me at that point, at least there was the moon above me. for this one moment, my guard was down.
