san zipped past the crowded streets of seoul. he had to get to school on time, or else his teacher would fail him and he does not want that. san tried to get to class on time, he really does, but something always managed to keep him from doing exactly that.

whether it be the traffic or just people in general, san only attended school on time for about three times a month. his professor was already kind enough not to fail him due to the excellent quality of his work, but he knew he couldn't stay like that forever. he needs to attend school on time.

san panted as he entered the classroom, proud that he was a minute or two earlier than the bell. he managed to catch his breath before slumping into a seat next to his best friend, seonghwa.

"you're not late." seonghwa said surprisingly. san beamed at him. he swore just the moment his teacher came in.

"san! glad to see you being on time," mr park said, "but please don't swear in my class." mr park chuckled, making the entire class burst into laughter and san into an embarrassed chuckle.

mr park was originally a substitute for their homeroom teacher for about two months due to their original teacher having her maternity leave. however, their original teacher decided to quit her job to take care of her child full time, which san thought was sweet, and so mr park will be teaching them for the entire year.

mr park is a really nice man, he always offers help to those who need it and is always patient with them. take san as an example, he's been late for a few minutes for about an entire month, yet mr park still has not to fail san or asked to see san's parents.

"okay, since san is on time, we get to quickly go through the roll call. i assume everyone's here, no?" mr park said, looking around the class. everyone nodded, "good. let me introduce our new student. wooyoung, you can come in."

a shy boy went into the classroom, his eyes glued to the floor. san, for once, was disappointed he arrived at school on time. if he arrived late, he could've caught a conversation or two with the new student, perhaps even befriend him.

"he doesn't talk much, so let me introduce him. he's jung wooyoung and he's pretty much the same age as all of you. please treat him nicely and don't tease him for not talking much. we all have different personalities and therefore act differently, so if he doesn't talk much during class and a teacher asks, tell the teacher he doesn't like talking much, okay?" mr park asked, the entire class nodding.

"great. if i see or hear anyone's bullying him for who he is, i will not hesitate to arrange a meeting with your parents to talk about your behaviour, understood?" mr park asked again, this time only a few nodded. mr park frowned but nodded anyway, "well, wooyoung, you can sit next to yeosang, i heard that you two are friends." the new boy nodded and went next to yeosang, slowly pulling out his chair to avoid any loud noises and sat down.

homeroom time went by quickly and before they knew it, it was lesson time. san groaned as he stood up from his seat, carrying his backpack over him and got ready to go to his next class. as he got up, he saw a few boys circling wooyoung and yeosang, yeosang standing in front of wooyoung to protect the new boy.

"san, come on." seonghwa, who's already at the door, ushered the younger.

"you go first." san started walking towards wooyoung and yeosang. seonghwa wanted to stop him but was too late when san patted one of the leading boy's shoulder. seonghwa sighed, this isn't going to turn out pretty.

"hey, get away from them." san said, pulling on the leading boy's shoulder, yanking him away from wooyoung and yeosang. yeosang looked at san surprised while wooyoung peered over yeosang's shoulder in curiosity.

the leading boy snickered, "and who are you to tell me what to do, choi san? i make the rules, not you, so fuck off before i make you." san wasn't going to give up just like that, he knew it, seonghwa knew it. so seonghwa just stood there, waiting for san to do something.

san might not be a very good student. hell, he's one of the worst. but when he sees something unfair happening to others, he tries to help them to the best he could. and that's what initially attracted seonghwa to san. san was a real sunshine boy, he helped everyone in need.

"mr park said to leave him alone, didn't you hear him? i could just tell him after school you weren't and next thing you know, your parents would be beating your ass for bullying a boy who doesn't like to talk. so leave him alone." san threatened, squaring up to the taller boy. the boy laughed at san's attempt. "no." the boy said plainly after laughing.

san shrugged, "suit yourself." next thing they knew, the boy was on the ground, clutching his nose with blood oozing out. seonghwa didn't reach out to help, nor did the taller boy's 'friends'. everyone just stood there, amazed and shocked by what san did to the boy.

the boy pointed a shaky finger at san, "you, you're insane!"

san chuckled lightly as he crouched down to the boy's level, the boy backing up slightly. "says the one who's bullying others." he muttered, giving the boy one last push and the boy ran away.

once all the bullies went away, san turned to yeosang and wooyoung. yeosang was shocked, but wooyoung was purely scared. he was so scared of san. he saw what san did to the other boy, and it truly scares him.

san saw the scared look on the new boy and instantly reassured him, "hey, don't worry. i won't punch you if you keep yourself on my good side. also, since you don't like to talk, here's my number. this way, i'll always have your back if yeosang doesn't." san beamed at the new boy as he wrote down his number on a random piece of notebook paper. yeosang glared at the boy but it was left unnoticed by wooyoung.

wooyoung went out of the shadows to get the notebook paper on san's hand, and san realised how pretty the boy looks. wooyoung had black hair down to his eye level, which really made san wonder if he could see at all. wooyoung's eyes were what caught san's attention. they were glistening as if they hold a universe within. they were so captivating that san wants to look into them forever. he felt a little something inside his chest but decided to ignore it, telling himself it's only the nerves.

"well, we really should get to class. i'm having english next, you?" seonghwa said and looked at wooyoung. he looked at him up and down and frowned, but didn't say anything else and looked over at yeosang.

"wooyoung and i both have maths. bye." yeosang pushed wooyoung out of their homeroom without waving at the two boys. before wooyoung left san's sight, wooyoung smiled at the other, trying to show him how grateful he was to have him punch the bully.

san smiled back, completely understanding what wooyoung wants to express.
