Franny was turning six. Bessie and Les planned a big party with all the neighbor kids and Franny's classmates. There were presents and cake. All kinds of toys that any six year old would die for. But Franny didn't care about any of that.
All her siblings were home for her party. See the USA hadn't joined the war yet. Life as Franny knew it would change in a years time. But that's another story.
Franny paged through the book from Seymour and Buddy. Philosophy book. Not meant for a six year old.
Even so, it was her favorite present.
