Part 1

A simple legend was what it was. A story to make the small town more interesting because we were desperate to be special. I never believed it, so why did I do it? Did Callum and Callie make me? I don't think so. So why did I?

Oh yeah, Nora wanted to prove that I would be perfect for her. That I was destined to be her soulmate. I was desperate to get her to leave me the fuck alone.

"Come on Gavin, you have to admit that we'd look really cute together," she chirped. I wanted to tell her off but Nora's mom is friends with mom and I don't need extra bullshit. Mom doesn't need extra bullshit.

I knew Nora was just messing around and teasing me but I was getting pissed off. I stared at the beautiful statue, remembering the actual legend instead of the tourist trap knockoff. Mom and dad used to tell me it as a bedtime story, usually because I always demanded it.

"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful kingdom that lived in the forest, just below the foot of the mountain. There was a beautiful princess with soft ebony hair and vibrant honey eyes. There was a terrible war that had started even before she was born. Her father decided to finally end it so his people wouldn't suffer anymore loss. A treaty was created, his daughter was to marry the young prince from the rival kingdom and finally settle their dispute. She rejected the idea of marrying the young prince, for she had fallen in love with someone else."

"Mommy, why would the king do that without the princess's permission?"

Her gentle smile always seemed to calm my nerves even when it was laced with sadness.

"Things were different back then and I guess he just didn't think it through. Well the beautiful princess fell in love with a knight of the royal guard. He was supposed to protect her, be at her beck and call. Technically he was just supposed outside her room door as precautionary measures. Soon enough he fell in love with her as well. It was a very dangerous love even before the arranged marriage. The princess promised to forever be in love with the handsome knight until they found a way to be together some other way."

---

"Nora stop being a bitch to Gavin and leave us the fuck alone," Callie groaned. Nora glared at her, "Why don't you leave us the fuck alone Callie, isn't your addict of a boyfriend calling you?"

Callum barely managed to hold back Callie. Honestly I would have let Callie beat the shit out of Nora, she's an asshole for saying that kind of shit to Callie. I pushed Nora away from me as she tried to cling to my arm.

"Look Nora, I will tolerate you grabbing onto me and bothering me but don't you fucking dare mess with them. I don't give a damn who the hell your parents are, they haven't done shit to you so don't disrespect them. Look I'll even hold hands and kiss the statue so you can leave me the fuck alone," I retaliate.

Please don't backfire on me.

"The king found out from one of the servants that the princess and knight were sneaking off to see each other. So he decided to put an end to it. He sent the knight to a small village not far from there. It so happened that the little village was known for its consistent raids and deaths because of how small it was. The knight died and the hand of a raider trying to steal from a mother with a small infant in her arms. The knight's best friend was the one to take his sword to the princess and tell her of his passing."
