16 long hours later, you are awoken to a flight attendant tapping your shoulder. You look out the small airplane window on your left side, and you notice that the plane has landed. You are in Korea!
You unbuckle your seatbelt and stand up to find Jae nearby waiting for you. You thank her for waiting as you collect your carry-on, and the two of you head out of the plane. You notice a few teenaged girls whispering to each other behind you, but they are speaking in Korean which you cannot understand. Not sure if it's because of you, you glance back at them only to notice them obsessing over Jae. You shrug your shoulders and keep walking to the airport terminal.
"Ah, they think I am a manager for BTS," Jae says quietly when you look at her with curious eyes. "I am not, but sometimes I go to publicity events that the group goes to. I help with Big Hit's marketing a lot. But today I am here with you. Not that I am unhappy. It is just not my usual job." You notice Jae seems a little annoyed, but she assures you she is happy to help you navigate your journey.
After going through customs, Jae calls someone on her cellphone, and she nods occassionally at you as she speaks to the other person in Korean. After hanging up, she explains that there is a car coming to pick you up to bring you to your temporary housing. While you are waiting for the car, Jae offers to buy you a snack, which you eagerly agree to as your stomach rumble.
"So did they tell you where you are living?" Jae asks you as you both sit at a small cafe table with a crossaint and coffee. You shake your head, as the only information you were told was that a temporary apartment would be provided for you, and you can choose to find a place of your own later if you so wish. You knew that you would be with someone else, but you had no idea who it was or what they did.
"Ah," Jae begins to explain. "You will be with Nabi in Seoul. She just started working at Big Hit last month. She is very nice." You nod but worry about language barriers. "She does speak a little English, which is good, but I do not think it is a lot."
"But it is okay! I will always be here to help!" Jae tries to reassure you as you seem nervous about the situation. "And she wants to learn more English so you can help her." You take a sip of your coffee as Jae's phone rings.
"Our car is here," she gets up and leads you outside where a black Hyundi Kona awaits you. "We will go to your new apartment first so you can see what you might need." You nod as you enter the back seat of the car, and Jae takes the front passenger seat to talk to the driver.
You doze off during the car ride, but Jae gently taps on your thigh to wake you up when you arrive at the apartment building. She explains that you won't need a key as there is a lockpad and tells you the code to open the door on the 2nd floor. You slowly open the door to find a small entry way with two pairs of white slippers and a little basket full of snacks and balloons. There is a note in the basket that reads: Welcome, Y/N. You smile at the kind gesture, not sure if this was the company's doing or your new roommate.
"Nabiiiii," Jae calls out and takes her shoes off. You begin to do the same as Jae walks around, saying something in Korean. You hear a high-pitched squeak and the shuffling of feet from another room, and a small girl in her mid 20's prances into the living room that you have just walked into. She gives a slight bow to you but then puts her hands up to her face.
"Hello," the girl says excitedly. "I am Nabi. How are you?" You smile at your new roommate and introduce yourself to her.
"We will be good friends. Do you need water?" Nabi rushes off into another room before you can say no. You notice Jae is sitting on one of the small couches in the room, and she motions for you to sit down.
"She is a bit excited, but very nice," Jae says as Nabi comes back into the room with a glass of water, which she hands to you. You thank her and take a refreshing sip to find there is a fruity taste to the water.
