"I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?"

Mrs. Norris's mewling filled the silent hallways as they lay deserted in the black of the night. The clock struck one making Argus Filch, the cantankerous caretaker smile with his yellow teeth on full display, for he could now go off to bed instead of having to roam the hallways in search of nasty children who dared to wander in the night. Holding his oil lamp which shone dimly in the dark, he walked alone back to his quarters with the little light, leaving his cat to stray freely.
Draco stared at the ceiling as he was lying down on his bed, arms crossed under his head. He continued what he had been doing for the past few minutes; Listening to a faint pulse.
He had awakened when he felt restlessness replacing the peace of his slumber. But it wasn't his own. No, it was his mate who seemed to be agitated. He couldn't understand. Her heartbeat pattern indicated that she was still asleep. Detecting nothing wron-
A sharp intake of breath paused his thoughts as he paused his thoughts as he concentrated on the accelerated breathing and erratic heartbeat.
Something is wrong, and, with that, he jumped off his bed, racing to the room next to his, where he saw a sleeping Hermione shaking uncontrollably.
Her hands had fisted the sheets, clutching them tightly. Beads of cold sweat were visibly forming on her forehead, thanks to Draco's enhanced sight.
Without wasting a second, he dashed to her side. With his warm hands, he cupped her cold cheeks.
"Hermione! HERMIONE!" he called out frantically, trying to wake the girl up from her nightmare, but in vain. Wiping the sweat and removing some traitorous strands of hair from her face, he gently engulfed her in his arms, keeping her head on his chest so that she could feel the pulse of his heart, which only beat for her.
Seconds grew into minutes as Hermione calmed down, relaxing in her position. When she fluttered her eyes open, welcoming her were a pair of silver eyes, worry, and anticipation transparent in them, as they gazed deeply into her hazel orbs.
She tried to speak but, her parched throat protested. In an instant, she felt a glass of water brought up to her lips, allowing her to soothe her thirst.
After addressing that need, she realized the position she was in and with whom.Removing herself from his arms, she awkwardly glanced at Draco.
"Why did you come here?" she asked, failing to understand how he caught the scent of her need.
" I felt a fraction of what you went through. It isn't abnormal considering we accidentally kissed in the potions disaster," Draco answered straightforwardly," But what happened?" he asked, bringing up the current issue.
"A nightmare; it's quite hazy. I can barely remember." Hermione voiced in a tired tone. She sat facing Draco's direction but, her gaze wandered behind him as she stared off into nothingness.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked softly. Hermione only shook her head, refusing to utter another word.
A hush descended as they both just sat there on the bed, lost in their minds, paying no attention to their inky surroundings.
Finally, detaching himself from the sheet, Draco stood up. "Alright then, I'll return to my room." With one last look at his mate, he turned around.
Hermione felt like her mind was battling with her heart.
As Draco reached to turn the doorknob, he heard a voice call out to him," Wait!"
He spun around in concern. He felt his heartbeat race up when he saw a faint red hue coat her cheeks.
" Would you mind staying with me, just one night, please..." Hermione requested meekly. His heart melted right at that spot.
Draco surprised himself when he walked towards her without a word. He sat down and instructed her to lie down. Even more shocked when she did so without any questions. Lying down, Hermione tried to calm her rapid heartbeat. She felt Draco shift beside her before lying down. He gently placed his arm on her waist and the other under his head before asking, " Is this fine?"
Hermione only nodded before facing him. Her eyes shut close, allowing her to fall into a blissful slumber as she unconsciously buried her face in his chest.
Day transcended night, as both lay peacefully in each other's arms.
