"The gown will look good on you." Laury said. "Mainly because it's white." She said. "Look, I seriously don't want to give you a marriage impression. Alright" I said. "Whatever." Laury chuckled.
"Then which gown do you like?" She asked. "I think the blue will look fine." I said. "If that is what you like. Here" She handed me the dress from the closet.
"Um... Laury, do you mind..." I left the rest for her to understand. "Of course, I will step out. Just get dressed fast, will you?" She asked. "I will try my best. I mean look, this is my first time." I said. "Well, no one can blame you or Mr. Esther." Laury shook her head and got outside.
I put on the blue gown, and got out of the room. "Fine. That's it." I said. "Oh my god." Laury wore a shocked expression. "Wait, don't tell me I look bad." I said.
"Sweetheart..." She shook her head. "It is not about you looking bad or not, Diana. You're not even fully dressed for a party. I mean you are dressed. But look at that not-so-pale face, and that hair. Come on. I will get you fully dressed for the party." She said and made me sit. She then put light make up on my face. She then took off my rubber band, which was tied to a high pony, and she let my hair fall down onto my shoulders, and she decorated my hair to her satisfaction. Well, for as much as I cared, I didn't have to do anything.
Suddenly she took a red lipstick. I stopped. "Why red? Pink is enough." I said. "But this dress doesn't have pink." She said. "Neither red." I said. "Whatever. I don't want to fight with you today." She said and let me put pink.
"Now, you look like a princess." She said, after seeing my reflection through the mirror. "Miss Lauryna, don't butter me. What do you want?" I asked and smirked. "God, I was being honest for a moment." She said. "Now, go see your father." She said. "Yeah, time to see my father." I said and got down the stairs.
My father was waiting for me, downstairs. "Ready to go, Diana?" Father asked. "Sure." I smiled back. "I know this is your first party," and the last, I wanted to add, "And telling you to not to worry, isn't going to change anything. I know that too. But try to enjoy yourself. Alright?" My father. I smiled back.
"Okay... I am asking you again. Are you ready, Diana Esther?" My father asked. "Yes, I am ready, Desmond Esther." I said and my father looked taken aback for a moment, but then regained to his normal self and smiled. "Now that's, my daughter." Father said.
We reached the party hall. And it was really big. This must be the original size for a party hall. May or may not. And I don't want to go to a party for a second time, for checking the size too.
Father looked at me. I managed to smile. "It's fine. I get it. It is first time." Well, he can see through me. He is my father. "You are free to be nervous. But as I told earlier, try to enjoy it as much as possible." Father said. I smiled genuinely this time. "Well, everything has a first time." I said. Father smiled.
As we got inside, the atmosphere changed. It started to quiet down. God, I hate it. I just hate it, when every eye are on me. DIANA, everything is fine. It is supposed to be fine. Just don't make a fool of yourself, and you can do it. I told to myself.
My father shook his head, as almost everyone went quiet. "Who is that?" Someone asked. "Diana Esther, a complete nobody." A familiar voice said. I didn't turn back. "Well, how can she be a nobody, if she came in with Desmond Esther, and architect-engineer?" The first somebody said. Good question. At least put some sense into that girl's head.
"Wait... Chloe," Someone called. Now I get it. The second somebody was Chloe, and the one talking now is Larris. "What is it Larris?" Chloe asked. "Chloe look, Diana Esther, Desmond Esther, you don't think that they are a..." Larris didn't complete, but surely everyone knew the last word. Family. "Oh my god..." Now, you are starting to see the truth. "Wow, the nobody you mentioned seems to be a somebody." The first one spoke again. "Shut up, Clover." Chloe said.
Now I remember Clover. She is Chloe's sister. I complete opposite replica of Chloe.
"Oh My, Desmond, is that you." Suddenly, someone came out of the crowd and hugged my father. He suddenly looked at me. "Is this young beauty your daughter?" He asked to my father. "Yes." Father answered with a smile. "What is your name?" He asked me. "Diana. Diana Esther." I said and shook hands with him.
"Well... let's get the party, started." He shouted, and music filled inside the room, everybody started singing and dancing, and the party was alive, once again.
"Well..." I could hear my father sigh. "Who are this Chloe, Larris and Clover?" He asked. "Oh. Guess you know who Chloe and Larris are?" I asked my father. "Yeah, Identity card stealers." Father replied. Identity card stealers, huh? "What about Clover. Who is she?" Father asked. "She is Chloe's sister. A good one actually. Complete opposite of her dear sister." I said. "MH-mmm, it was evident from her attitude towards her sister." Father said.
Suddenly the music changed. Couples began forming. Couple Dance. I thought to myself.
For a moment, I concentrated on the music and the next moment my father was missing. I started walking around, looking for him.
Suddenly, someone poked on my shoulders. I turned back. It was Chloe, Larris and Clover. Clover smiled at me. I smiled back at her.
"How is Desmond Esther to you?" Chloe asked. "Yeah, how is he?" Larris repeated the question. "He is a good man." I said and Clover laughed in a small way.
Chloe glared at her. "As if it would scare me." Clover said. "Spoiled brat." Chloe said. "Says who?" Clover asked. Chloe snorted.
"So..." Chloe turned to me. "Yes?" I asked attentively, which annoyed her even more. "What is your relation with DESMOND ESTHER?" Chloe asked my father's name a bit too loudly, that some of the close by people turned and looked at us. "Oh... about that." "Yeah, spill it." Chloe ordered. "And why should I obey you?" I asked. "Because I, am the Mayor's daughter." She said, proudly.
"And if my memory serves well, I think it was the Mayor himself, who declared that everyone in Victoria is equal, no difference based on color, caste and so on. Then how come Mayor's own daughter... not good..." I said back.
"Whoa, I like it." Clover said. "Oh please, who needs your comment?" Chloe asked to Clover. "Well, looking at the probability of people's opinion, I think, they would like mine, better than yours." Clover told back. Whoa, that was cool. I wanted to tell, but I thought better than to interrupt in their sisterly matters.
"Oh Diana, I was looking for you." Father popped out of nowhere. "Good afternoon, Mr. Esther." Clover greeted. "Good morning, young child." Father greeted back. He then turned to me. "Diana, you mind coming with, for a few minutes?" Father asked. "Sure, no problem." I said. He then turned to Chloe, Larris and Clover. "You don't mind me taking her for a minute, do you?" He asked.
"No sir. You may take her." Clover replied. "Wait, is she really your daughter?" Chloe asked. "Actually, she is my own wife's daughter." Father said. "Oh, Alright. I thought that she might me your daughter, so she's ac-" She stopped there. She then only realized my father's trick. Oh, poor girl.
Clover laughed lightly. "Diana?" Father turned to me. "Yes, behind you, father." I said and he started to walk. "After we reached a certain distance, I told my father, "That was a good one." "Well, after all, you are the daughter of my wife." Father said and smirked. I chuckled.
"Suddenly, someone poked on my shoulder again. "Chloe, please-" I suddenly stopped myself, as I realized that is wasn't Chloe, but some other man, but is almost the boy version of Chloe.
