Twenty-three

(I know people like Jade but someone had to be a shitty love interest)

Dave climbed into the driver's seat as Rose checked her phone and Kanaya peaked over her shoulder.

"Here's the address, Dave, now drive, we can't be late!" Rose said, flashing her phone at him and strapping herself in. He nodded and stepped on the gas.

A few minutes later, they arrived at the house.

"Rented it real cheap since it's the off season," Rose said, answering the question no one asked. "And Kanaya knows the owners daughter, right babe?"

"Yes, she's in the therapy group," Kanaya said with a smile. "Cute kid."

Dave ignored both of them, mentally panicking over how he would talk to Jade. Crap, should I just tell her I don't want to date? How will she react? Oh fuck this is going to be hard...

When they walked inside, Dave was still panicking and barely noticed any of the details, he just muttered where's a bedroom and trancewalked upstairs.

He sat down on the bed and waited there, even as he heard guests coming in. The wallpaper was black with red designs and gray curtains. Karkat would love it here, he thought before reminding himself to not think about him. He jumped as his phone buzzed a few minutes in.

Jade just got here, should I send her up?

He took a deep breath and texted back:

sure

He waited around a bit, his heart tying to beat out of his chest. He heard the door open and turned to see Jade standing in the doorway with a small smile on her face. Her cat tail twitched and she pulled her skirt down self consciously. 

"Hey Dave." 

"Jade."

He stared her down, not letting any emotion betray him. She glanced around and chirped, "This place is real nice, don't you think?"

He just shrugged and said nothing.

"Umm..." Her ears drooped at bit as she said, "Do you like me at all, Dave?"

He shook his head, slightly releaved to get that out of the way first.

"But.... You're so cool and ironic, I want to date you!" She said sadly.

He sighed and said, "How bout one kiss, ok? Then you and your brother have to stop bothering me."

She nodded enthusiasticly and walked up to him slowly. Crap, I've never kissed anyone other then Karkat. He thought, a little late. How do you do this again?

She stood up agaisnt him, pressing her lips to his. He kissed her back, a little hesitant at first. She reached up to run her fingers through his hair-

"What the fuck?"
