(a/n roxy uses they/them and he/him pronouns in this story ^^)

Karkat walked in and the smell of alcohol hit his nose like a brick. He almost gagged and glanced over at Kankri, who seemed to be doing just fine. Damnit, if it doesn't bother him, it shouldn't bother me. He straightened up again and glanced around.

The house was definitely bigger on the inside. It was two stories, with a balcony hanging over from the second and a chandelier. There was a room with food to the right and a closed-door to his left. It was crowded, barely enough room for the two on them to squeeze through.

"I'm gonna get a drink, you do..." He waved his hand and walked away, leaving Karkat in the middle of a crowd with no one he knew.

"Oh hey, Karkat!"

He turned around to see Roxy waving at him from the balcony. He smiled and walked up next to them.

"Hey Roxy. Been a while." He said, taking the beer bottle from next to them and taking a swig.

"Sure has, Karks! How you been?" Roxy asked, taking a drag and grinning.

Karkat just shrugged and looked down.

"Ooh, that bad, huh?" They laughed and said, "Hope it wasn't my little sister."

Karkat shook his head and hesitated before saying, "No it was... a breakup." Roxy laughed again and said, "Man, who was it this time? Terezi? John?"

He just shook his head. "No. Course it wasn't fucking JOHN."

Roxy grinned. "Alright then, who was it? Cmon, Karks, just tell me." They took another drag and waited for Karkat to respond.

Oh fuck it, everyone knows anyway. They probably do know about it, just trying to annoy me.

"Alright fine, it was Dave." He muttered before taking a hasty glup of his beer.

"Karkat. You serious?" Roxy asked. Karkat glanced over to see that they weren't joking.

"Mhm..."

Roxy stared at him some more before bursting out laughing. "Dude, you know how much he texted me about liking you?! You finally got together and you threw it away like that?!"

Karkat just rolled his eyes. "Very fucking funny."

"No, I'm serious! He loves you so much, why did you break up?" They asked, cocking their head.

Karkat opened and closed his mouth before finally saying, "Kankri... Didn't like him. And I want my family to love me."

Roxy looked at Karkat seriously. "Dude, if your family can't love you for who you are, than you shouldn't value their love over your friends love. Does any of that make sense?"

Karkat just looked at his drink and said nothing. Roxy sighed and said, "Look, I think he's in the back bedroom if you want to go talk to him."

"Theres nothing for me to say." He responded. "Theres honestly no fucking thing to say at this point. Its my fault-"

"Then apologize!" Roxy broke in. "Just tell him something, anything, you know he wants to see you."

Karkat grumbled but silently agreed with them. Maybe it will be alright, just get feelings out of the way. Super easy.
