I had to run back from work, to change at 4:30pm. Yes, I work on Sundays. Not every sunday but whenever there's a pending case, it just takes up my mind, unable to let me sleep.
Now, there's a pair of big brown orbs occupying some parts of those sleep-wrecking thoughts. Those soft black hairs with curls at the end..I sit here in my Louis Philip blue shirt and grey formal trousers, Guess Leather shoes with a Rolex watch and Armani perfume on, ready to meet the girl with the most delectable lips ever. I never like putting effort in getting ready. Today, I did it. I gave 25 minutes of my precious time on getting ready. Honestly, even I am confused as to why ?
I check my phone for what feels like the millionth time.5:38pm.
Has she stood me up ? Did she see my picture and decided to back off ?
And that's when I saw a familiar dark gray Wrangler Jeep drive up, on the road to the main gate, from the floor to ceiling windows of the 5th floor of the restaurant. There's something about her choice of car that makes her more attractive.I saw her step out of the car and slam the door shut. The Valet said something taking her car keys as she looked at him angrily and spoke back. They looked like in a heated moment or something like exchanging arguments.
Is she a pampered brat, that is rude to the help?
Or did the Valet say something rude ?
No. I need to keep my suspicious police brain in my cabin at the office and enjoy this moment. She pointed her index finger at the guard in warning.
Is she a Karen type, that threatens every employ to call the manager?Hold on, Am I overthinking this?
Ofcourse not. I'll be spending my life with her, I need to think this through.
I see her open the glass door and walk inside. Her eyes scan around, the restaurant and her Indian look takes my breath away.. I notice the dress hugging her curves, those dangling earrings and that beautiful long neck. How I'd like to run my lips over.. Hold on.. What's wrong with me?
Then her eyes land on me, They meet my gaze as the intensity of that smile, decreases a notch, replaced with seriousness. I get up from my chair with a small smile as she walks to me. I walk to the other side and pull the chair for her.
She takes the seat and murmurs a "Thank you" as I go and sit on my seat.
"You're welcome" I say and smile.
She nods and starts looking everywhere but me.
I clear my throat and speak, "You look gorgeous." she murmurs and nods another Thank you as the waiter comes to take our order. She orders a Caramel Cappuccino and strawberry donut with rainbow sprinkles, while I order a black coffee for myself. Her order was so childish, but it also made it clear that she wasn't here to impress me. On the other hand, she didn't care what I think. She was being her true self and I appreciated that."Sorry.. For the delay." she says after the waiter leaves.
"You're dad was pretty boastful about your punctuality, I should say that was shocking."
"No, I just.. I was babysitting my nephew and her mother was late by a few minutes. I left the moment she came back." She says with a plastered smile.
"Miss. Gill. You know.."
"Dr.Gill, Please." She interrupts.
"Dr. Gill, you are the daughter of a police officer, you should know better than to lie to one." I say confidently as her smile disappears, replaced by a frown.
"Excuse me ?" She says sounding a little offended.
I point to the pair of earrings she was wearing.
"You slept with this pair of earrings and some other dress on. You woke up and changed your dress, well becoz wrinkles..but your previous dress got stuck and pulled the small dangling part of the earring with it." I say explaining my theory as she sits there shocked as I look at the small mark the earring has left on her neck when she must have slept with it.
"And you pull the dress from your earring instead of untangling it, only when you're late." I say concluding as she looks a little startled.
"What if I just broke the earring while driving, becoz I was untangling my hair and it got stuck between my hair and bangles." She retorted back giving me a stern glance. She's a good liar. I'll give her that.
"You're hairs proper.. Just freshly combed.. So if you didn't brush your hair while driving, I'd say that's impossible." I said and before she could open her mouth again, I continued.
"Which you wouldn't becoz you care more about being on time, than about a few strands of hair not in place." I say and this actually catches her off guard."You're good, I'll give you that." She says and leans back into her chair.
"That's big praise coming from Mr.Jeet Gill's daughter." I say and extend my hand for a shake.
"Let's start again, I'm Ambar singh Deol." I say and smile as she puts her soft little hand in mine. I won't lie that felt so damn good and the blood from my brain immediately went south. What is wrong with me? It's not like I've never shaken hands with a girl before.
"Dr. Samayra Gill" She says with a smile pulling her hand away.
"You must be super intelligent." I say referring to the Dr. Part of her name.
"Everyone thinks that." She says unamused.
"It's hard work..being a vet." I reply
"Hardwork, yes.. Intelligence.. Less than yours, especially by the way you caught my lie. I'd say we are almost on the same level." She says with a soft smile as the waiter comes to give us our drinks. We both smiled and Thanked him. Was she doing a show of being polite now ? Since I saw her being rude to the Valet ?"I saw you fighting with the Valet, You know." I said a little too excusingly
"Excuse me?"
"Sorry, Dr. Gill.. But I am not a fan of people treating help badly and I think you should have.."
"Hold on, that Valet is my live-in house help Gina's brother. I basically grew up with him. He joked when he saw me and I joked back. He told me I looked fat in this dress and I told him to go fûck himself." She said and picked up her phone from the table, lifting her ass from the table.
"Where do you think, you are going ?" I speak and it comes out ruder than I expected.
"I can't spend my life with a judging, rude and controlling patriarchal man. I do what I want to. We are done here."
She says as she slides her chair backward, standing up and I look at her walking out of the restaurant, sitting there shocked and perplexed. I messed up. Didn't I ?++Author's note++
