Samayra POV
I sat in my cabin, 2 hours into work dealing with a lady who didn't want to get her very densely haired poodle shaved, but the attendants couldn't find the dog's vein among the fluffy hair coat. Yeah, the shift had changed thankfully, and I was now in the small animal wing.
"That'll spoil his entire look." She whined.
"Ma'am how about you keep your dog looking beautiful and when we are unable to send his blood samples for what we suspect can be leukemia, don't blame it on us." I say with a tight lipped smile, trying to act polite as she gasps and her mouth falls open.
"How dare you... This is my baby..." she says rubbing her hand through the coat of the dog as it looks at me curiously.
I feel sorry for the dog. Living with an owner that cares more about looks than about health must be sad for the poor soul. I have a separate citadel of hate in my brain, for people who refuse to abide by something that requires basic common sense.
"I'm sorry on her behalf, ma'am." Vikram says entering my cabin, "How about we shave a small area... Somewhere you can put on those cute socks available these days" he says as I interfere.
"The dog's dehydrated, plus we need blood for four different tests." I say pointing out that it needs to be a major vein, as he raises his eyebrow at me.
Damnit. What's wrong with me?
"So, we will need you to get a good pair of stockings for your baby... And he's gonna look so cute and trendy." I say trying to smile my widest.
"I'll ask our very experienced attendant to take the sample. Please come with me." Vikram says guiding them out as another polite and cooperative owner enters with his dog and I successfully write him a prescription.
"Next." I say as Vikram walks in again.
"You had three cases in the waiting as of 7 minutes ago, I send them to Dr. Anuj and told the receptionist you are taking an early lunch break and will sit for emergencies during lunch." he announces as I frown.
"Why would you do that?" I ask shocked.
"I don't know, maybe because you were ready to start an argument with the Governor's daughter-in-law." He says as my eyes were now open wide.
Governor's daughter-in-law?
And there goes my promotion.
"The what... She... Damn it." I say and throw the pen on the note pad with the hospital's logo on left and my maiden name on the right.
"You know how much I hate such pompous humans.. Oh God.." I say and bury my face between my hands. "I became a veterinarian and not a human doc because I prefer dogs over humans. Why do I have to deal with humans?" I say on the verge of crying. I can't wait to go to my dad's house like when I was unmarried and cry into my pillow.
