Narrator's point of view:
Shouya sat in class letting his mind wonder off. "Okay class. Today we'll be talking about your plans for after high school." The teacher announced as she walked around the classroom handing out papers. Shouya took his piece of paper and looked it over. "Generally there are three choices for what a student can do once they leave high school." The teacher explained. She walked up to the board and wrong down three things as she explained. "A student can either go to college and get a high level of education. A student can go into the work force and find a job that only requires a high school diploma. Lastly, a student can choose to get married and to a partner who will choose one of the other two options while you stay and take care of the house." The teacher explained. A few whispers spread across the room. Shouya's laid unfocused on the paper that had been passed out. "Please choose wisely students. Though you can change your plans after you turn this in, it's important for you to have your future planned out. You must have this turned in by the end of the month with your answer." The teacher told the class.
Shouya's point of view:
Plan our futures? What do I want to do? I guess I could always just help mom out at the store. Is that too easy though? I probably not going to go to college, I can barely keep grades up as is. I've already had a job before. Would that be enough to cover the price of living though. Ugh I wish things could be like when I was little. It felt like only yesterday when this seemed like a future question that would never come. Maybe I could just get married to a girl who makes a lot of money. Married? Ha, it's hard to imagine me getting married. I've never even dated anyone before. I don't think I could spend my whole life with someone, I barely can handle hanging around the little family I have as is even if I do love them. Though, spending all that time with Shouko might not be so bad. Wait what am I saying?! There I go again with thinking about weird stuff like that.
Narrator's point of view:
"What do you think you're going to put down?" Nagatsuka asked Shouya curiously. Shouya laughed awkwardly. "I'm not entirely sure." He answered honestly. A shock of horror shot across Nagatsuka's face. "You don't know what you're future is going to be like. Yasho my man you have to figure that stuff out! After this year we'll be free men who have to fend for ourselves out in the real world." He reminded him dramatically. Shouya laughed along even though he hated the reminder. Nagatsuka gave him a knowing smile. "You know you better choose something that will make you a lot of money if you want to support yourself and Shouko." He teased. Shouya's face lit up with a bright pink blush. "Don't say stuff like that!" He yelled flustered. Nagatsuka just laughed. "You can keep denying it buddy, just know whenever you're ready to do anything I'll be here for you." He told him elbowing him playfully. Shouya's face stayed pink as he thought about what he might want to do.
Shouya's point of view:
I don't have any special talents or anything. If I do ever plan to get married it makes sense that I should be able to make enough money just in case. Even then though she might have a job too, maybe I shouldn't reply on that though since I don't even know who this could be. I mean what does Shouko plan to do? Will she be able to find a job okay? Why am I thinking that as if I plan to marry her?!
Narrator's point of view:
"Listen man don't think too much about this." Nagatsuka added. Shouya's mind went blank for a second when he heart him say that. "What?" Shouya asked confused. "Yeah, just do what you think would be best. What kind of life do you want to live?" Nagatsuka asked him as they made it to their lockers. Shouya looked in the back of his mind for an answer. "I don't know. I wouldn't mind if things stayed the way that they are now to be honest." Shouya answered with a slightly sad tone. "Well then why don't you go to college?" Nagatsuka offered. "Oh no college is not for me." Shouya told him shaking his head as he got his stuff to go home. "What kind of things do you like to do, you know other than dream about Shouko?" Nagatsuka picked. Shouya gave him a stern look of 'stop it'. "I mean I like to play video games and read comics. I've always been good with Maria so doing some kind of teaching might not be too bad." Shouya rambled. "Plus having sign under your belt is going to look great at any place you go looking for work." Nagatsuka pointed out. Shouya felt sudden shock of anger go down his spine. Nagatsuka noticed the look on his face. "Hey what's wrong man?" He asked him confused. Shouya shook it off. "Learning sigh was a way for me to make up for what I did. I don't want to use it for anything other than to have a conversation with a person. I didn't learn sign so it would look good on a piece of paper." Shouya explained his tone in between plain and anger. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't think about it." Nagatsuka stammered. Shouya sighed. "It's fine I know you didn't mean it like that." He told him in a plain voice. Shouya didn't bring it up again. Later on that day Shouya got a message from Toshi asking him to meet him on the bridge. Though Shouya was confused by the request he got up and slowly started getting ready.
Shouya's point of view:
Why does he want to meet up? Did something happen? I'm not exactly the guy who you come to when things do go wrong though. I hope he doesn't want to ask a bunch of questions about what happened in sixth grade. I mean- I'm sure he won't, but what if he does?
Narrator's point of view:
Shouya walked onto the bridge to find Toshi and Miki waiting for him. Shouya started to get nervous. Toshi noticed him and waved his hand motioning him over. Shouya hurried over to them. "Shouya it's been such a long time." Miki said happily. "Hey Miki, long time no see." Shouya said awkwardly. Suddenly Shouya heard footsteps from behind him. He turned around to see Shouko standing behind him. "Shouko?" Shouya whispered to himself confused. Shouko looked at him, then looked down with a little blush on her cheeks. "Wait you didn't tell them why you asked him why you asked him to come?" Miki asked in shock. "I didn't want him to get the wrong idea so I thought I should ask in person." Toshi explained laughing awkwardly. Shouko walked beside Shouya. "What is this about?" Shouya asked. A blush rose up on Miki's cheeks. "Well, me and Miki recently decided we would try going out." Toshi explained. Shouya's eyes widened with shock. "Oh uh, congratulations." Shouya stated awkwardly. "Well, Miki still feels a little embarrassed about doing things with just the two of us." Toshi explained. Shouya's mind finally caught on to what he was saying. "Wait, you don't mean?" "We where wondering if you and Shouko would go on a double date with us." Toshi explained.
