It was late afternoon on Christmas eve and Roxie was sitting on the couch alone editing a video that she was hoping to upload before she went to sleep. In the background Josie and Fergus were watching some Irish Christmas special and both sets of parents were chatting in the kitchen as they prepared supper together. She phone lit up next to her, the screen showing the picture she had taken of Eoin on the train the other day. She smiled at the screen as she read the message.
"Is that from Eoin?" Josie asked, putting emphasis on his name.
"Yeah." She said, not wanting to give up to much information.
"Invite him over." Josie said, not really paying attention to her movie. "Seriously, you should. If he comes over, then we'll have even teams to play games. please invite him over."
Roxie bit her lip and thought about it. She grabbed her phone and went to her room and dialled his number.
Eoin picked up after the second ring.
"Hello beautiful." His deep voice said, sending a shiver down her spine.
"Hi. Are you doing anything tonight?"
"Not that I can think of."
"Would you like to spend Christmas eve with us? We're doing the big supper and opening presents tonight, since they'll be getting everything ready for the wedding all day tomorrow. And I miss you, I want you to sleep over." She said, her voice getting soft on the last part.
"I could be there in about an hour."
The hour leading up to Eoin arriving went very slow despite the fact that Roxie got so much done in that time. When he finally knocked on the door, butterflies started swarming in her belly. She ran to the door, but Josie beat her there.
"So, you must be Eoin. We have heard surprisingly little about you." Josie said, clearly trying to throw him off his game.
Eoin smiled at her and gave her a big bear hug, throwing Josie off hers.
"And you must be the famous Josie. And your very soon to be husband Fergus. It's lovely to meet you both." He shook Fergus' hand. He then turned his attention to Roxie and gave her a hug bigger then the one he had given Josie. "How are you doing today, lovie." He asked in her ear.
"Much better now that you're here." She whispered back. He put her down and she finished making the introductions.
"It is very nice to meet you all." He said to the whole room.
"Why don't you go get settled, supper will be ready soon." Fergus' mom said with a smile. Roxie could already tell that everyone liked him.
Roxie led Eoin down the hall to the room she had been sleeping in. "This is cute." He said, flopping his over night bag onto the bed and looking around the room. He then turned his attention on her and smiled. "I didn't say it on the phone, but I missed you too." He kissed her like they had been apart for weeks, when they had seen each other the day before.
"I finished your book last night." She said, pulling away from him.
"What'd you think?" He asked sitting on the bed.
"I loved it. It's amazing." She sat next to him. "It was the best thing I've ever read."
"Aww thanks love." His hand was rested on her knee. He started massaging her leg with his fingers and they slowly crept up her leg. "Fancy a quick shag?" He asked, his voice getting low.
"Eoin! My family is right out there!" She giggled swatting his hand away. He stuck his lower lip out and pouted a little, making Roxie bite her lip .
A short while later Roxie was fixing her hair in the mirror while Eoin fixed his clothes.
"How do I look?" She asked turning to him.
"Like a girlie thats just had a good shag." He grabbed her face in his hands and kissed her.
"I'm serious, we need to go out there." She took his hand and dragged him out of the room.
They joined her family just as they were preparing to sit down for supper. Eoin slid on to the bench next to Roxie, and her dad sat on the other side of him, but this did not stop Eoin from constantly playing footsie with Roxie.
They finished supper and opened presents, then played pictionary. Eoin and Roxie were a very good team, but it was the almost newly weds that won the game. The parents all said their good nights and Josie and Fergus soon followed, leaving Eoin and Roxie alone on the couch.
"I have a present for you." He said as he stroked her hair. Roxie sat up and looked at him.
"You got me a present? You didn't have to do that, I didn't get you anything."
"It's alright, It's nothing fancy. I saw it and thought of you." He looked at her with his dark brown eyes and reached out to stroke her cheek, "God, you're gorgeous, you know that?"
"You're just saying that to get me in bed." She poked his chest, "But it's kind of totally working. Shall we?" She unbuttoned his top button.
