I WILL DO THIS ONCE AND ONCE ONLY
DISCLAIMER: my name is Sakinah Hussain that is not code for Rick Riordan or J.K Rowling meaning I own neither the heroes of Olympus nor Harry Potter characters featured in this story.I was hoping for a normal year at camp, or as normal as it can be for a demigod. After the Titan war, and stopping Gaia plan this summer I think we all deserved that, and that is how it was supposed to be, back to normal, just camp activities and adding new cabins for the minor gods. And everyone, except me, seemed to have got their wish for peace.
Obviously, me being literally the most unfortunate demi-god alive, had my father had summoned me. Oh yeah, I suppose I should introduce myself. Nico Di Angelo. The scary, creepy, death radiating kid. The one that everyone avoided until I became a saviour of Olympus. Then everyone had started treating me like I was a hero. Which I didn't mind too much, I suppose, but I always got the impression that, apart from the seven, Reyna, Thalia, Clarisse, Will, Rachel and a couple of others, the campers were still kind of scared of me. especially after the stunts I pulled during the war. My powers had greatly enhanced since then, and all the campers knew that, so whenever I entered the training ring, they would usually run away. So, I tend to practise with the people I can call my friends.
So anyway, back to my current life, my father, Hades, god of the underworld, had summoned me. Well actually, he just flashed me out of my cabin, and into my room at his kingdom. Both of my rooms are basically the same: black walls, black carpet, black bed. The lights were white as well, so it looked like a room from one of those black and white TV shows. The only difference was that there were windows in the cabin at CHB, but I always shut the curtains so, it doesn't make much difference. So here I am, in my room. I found a note on my bed, so I unfolded it and squinted at what it said. Clearly it was from my father, who seemed to have forgotten that my brain was hard-wired for ancient Greek or Latin. Not English. After about 10 minutes of torture, I gave up and went to the throne room to see what he wanted.
"Nico, your late." Hades said in a bored voice.
I knelt in front of him and said, "well I would've been here a lot quicker, if somebody had written a note I could read."
"you can't blame the headmaster. He only learned of your heritage this morning." Oh great. My least favourite aunt was here. Persephone. And if she was here that meant-
"this boy needs cereal. A good six months behind a plough, good character building, this boy needs it, he's a moody one."
"hello aunt Persephone, aunt Demeter." I said unenthusiastically. It was always the same thing with them. Cereal and flowers. But then I realised that it was summer. They shouldn't even be here. Something must be going on then. Something big. My face must have shown it because Hades said,
"Demeter wanted to check up on me. Make sure I was eating my cereal." Rolling his eyes.As Persephone and Demeter left the throne room arguing again about the pomegranate, I noticed another goddess stood to the left of my father's throne. She was wearing a beautiful purple gown that looked slightly like a bathrobe of some sort, with a circle over her head like a halo.
"lady Hecate." I greeted.
"Nico, my dear. Oh, you can stand up now, you know." She said. I hadn't noticed I was still kneeling.
I got up eyeing the goddess gratefully. My knee was starting to hurt on the cold stone floor. "I understand that you have just come back from a quest. But I have one to offer you." She explained. Well she got straight to the point, I thought.
"offer me? so that means I have a choice?" I said, already knowing the answer.
"yes, you have a choice. You can accept the quest or, I can blast you into ashes or better make you stay with your dear old aunts." She said simply.
So, I'm guessing you know my answer. I did notice that Hades had started rise slightly when she said this, and my heart was internally soaring. After the war, he had started treating me more like his son rather than some rando he picked up on the street. Obviously, I didn't show any emotion outside, keeping my usual emotionless face.
"fine. You win. What's this quest then?" I sigh.
"I'm a goddess Nico, when do I not win?" I snorted but managed to pass it off as a violent sneeze. "as for your quest, it's witches and wizards. You will attend a school called Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry." I was about to protest; Nico and school don't mix.
"no ifs ands or buts." She said. "you cannot, under any circumstance, reveal your true heritage, unless one of us tells you too. The exception is the headmaster and heads of houses, who are already aware of this."
"what am I doing there?" I ask, not in the least expecting the answer she gave.
"doing? what do you mean, doing?" she said looking surprised.
"yeah. Like you aren't just sending me there to learn, are you?"
"you have to prevent trouble. Make sure nothing happens. And protect the wizards, for they are entering a war in a few years, yet they do not know it. You might need to know some backstory though." she said deep in thought. I waited a few moments before clearing my throat and she jerked out of her trance and continued.
"long ago I had three children who had inherited magic from me. Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw. They were powerful wizards and witches but not in the demi-god sense. They were not strong and could not fight like you. They lived among the demi-gods and practised magic in secret.
And one absurd day, your father did me a favour and I blessed him with magic. Not as strong as my own of course, but it was still magic. Your father had a child and I blessed him with magic as powerful as my own children. His name was Salazar Slytherin. Those four decided to create a school for people like them. Long after, a boy named Tom Riddle attended Hogwarts. He was the grandchild of Slytherin, the only one who had magic in their family since him. He was a bright, intelligent pupil, but he chose the wrong path. He went further down the path of immortality than any other. He was defeated about 10 years ago, but he is coming back stronger than ever. And the wizards are in danger for there is a war approaching them, though they turn a blind eye. There is someone you must protect. I cannot tell you who, that will be later, but he does manage to get into trouble. So, keep him safe." she finished. Great, I get a quest to babysit some idiot.
"when do I leave?" I ask stifling a yawn.
"as soon as you pack. Your school starts the day after the next, so you will need to buy your stuff."
She handed me a leather pouch that contained gold, silver and bronze coins slightly small than drachma's, or as she liked to call them 'galleons, sickles and nuts.'
"oh, and if anyone does ask, you are classed as a pure-blood." She took a look at the confusion on my face and explained. "it means both your parents are magical. A half-blood means one magical parent and one muggle, meaning non-magic. Then there are muggle-born where both parents are muggles. They can be called 'mud-bloods' but it is quite offensive." I went to speak again asking another question on my list and she sighed, "you know what, I'm going to give you a blessing for most of the knowledge you will need. This question and answer session's taking too long."
She placed a finger on my forehead, and I flinched a little. I didn't like people touching me. it took me back to my memories of Tartarus, the first mythological creature I saw, me and Bianca in the hotel and a bunch of other stuff causing me to shudder involuntarily.
Hades then said, "when you awake you will find a half-giant called Hagrid. Don't kill him he's going to take you shopping. Good luck." Then I blacked out.
