The next day, I quickly dressed in a knee-length red dress, braided my hair, and put on a pair of flats. I had just woken up, but I had to hurry. I needed time to carry out my plan, unless I had luck today.
Carlos and I had made up last night. He still seemed pretty shaken that I had fallen for another boy, but we were friends again.
I grabbed the purse with the diary, and headed to the top floor - the twentieth floor, were the royal family's private judge was.
Okay, here was my theroy. Sofia and John wouldn't want the fact that the heir to the throne was American, so they would want a private adoption. But, since and adoption required witnesses, there was still a chance that the word would get out. If they did a public adoption, the word would obviously not be able to be contained. Our judge had been our judge since before Sofia and John had married. So, if they didn't have a private adoption, I wasn't their legal child and I would still legally be Courtney Riley, the American, and I would be free to go back home to my family, my school, my friends, the team... and Adam.
I knocked on the door the the court room.
"Come in!" Judge Aurther called. I opened the door.
"Hello, Judge Aurther." I said with a curtsy. "Listen, could you call an emergency council? It's very important." I said.
"How important?" Judge Aurther sighed.
"Well, it concerns the future of England concerning it's next ruler." I said. Judge Aurther blinked, and then pressed a button on the intercom. I didn't listen to everything he had to say, but I knew he was calling every royal in the castle, wether English or Russian. I took a seat on a bench pushed up against the wall to wait.
I didn't have to wit long. Five minutes later, the door swung open, and Sofia, John and the Russian royals stepped in. The Russian kids looked at me with small smiles. Zac even winked. I smiled back at them.
"What is this all about?" John asked.
"This." I said, pulling the diary from the purse. I turned to the judge. "Judge Aurther, do you have anything concerning my adoption?" I asked.
"Your adoption?" He asked, rasing an eyebrow. "Why?"
"Read the last entry. That'll clear things up considerably." I said. I gave him the diary and he flipped to the page. While we waited for him to finish reading, I sat back down, folding my hands in my lap. Evelyne and Audrey sat next to me, sitting in the same position.
"Hmm." Judge Auther said, closing the diary and setting it on his desk. "No, I have nothing concering an adoption of any kind." He said.
"That doesn't prove anything." Sofia said. "We adopted her with a different judge. You were sick when we came back from America, Your Honor, you remember that, surely."
"You didn't use a different judge." I said, standing up. "There is no other private judge to use. If you had used a public judge, word would have gotten out quickly that the heir to the English throne was not of English decent, but of American. Even with a private adoption, you must have witnesses, and that leaves a small chance that people could still find out. You two were afraid of being disgraced if people found out that your daughter, was, in fact, American, and not English." I said, clasping my hands. "Therfore, I am still legally Brittany and Jacob Riley's child, and, therefore, I am American and free to go back to America, where I belong."
Judge Aurther turned to Sofia and John. "This is true, yes?"
Sofia sighed. "Yes, it is. Courtney is not out child."
Carlos' parents gasped. David promised to tell them later.
"Well, that settles it. I am leaving." I said, and I walked back the elevator and down to my room where I pulled out the suitcase that I had brought with me. It still had all the clothes in it.
