"Happy Birthday, My Lady." He greeted one last time, raising my hand to his lips and placing a kiss on my knuckles.
Usually, my dreams started off good before shifting to the bad ones. This one did not linger too much on the sweet part of the dream and instead I was transported back to when I first heard the voice of someone calling for help.
Help!
Help!
Help me please!
My eyes widened and I started running towards the voice.
That voice. It sounded so familiar.
I ran as fast as I could. I ran through the trees in the forest before it hit me. I stopped abruptly and realized that I was already in the woods. This is what happened earlier. But unlike that time, Ezra pulled me back, preventing me from entering the woods. I looked back and saw nothing but the heavily thicket behind me. Ezra was not there. No one was there ergo no stopping me from following the voice in a daze.
This is another dream. This is something that I knew.
"Help me!" the familiar voice screamed again. I started to sprint towards its direction. Not knowing where it was exactly, I relied only on my instincts and blindly let my feet take me there.
At the end of the path, I was confronted with a decapitated arm. I screamed in horror as my eyes followed the blood trail and there, lying in the middle of the woods were the rest of parts lay.
What's happening? I asked myself.
I gulped as I stared at the decapitated body and upon seeing the head and the face, another scream tore through the forest as I recognize whose face it was.
Daphne...
I closed my eyes and covered my face, trying to remove the image from my brain while also willing myself to wake up from this terrible dream.
Wake up! Please wake up! I know this is just a horrible nightmare so please wake up!
When I opened my eyes, I was still there, in the middle of the forest, staring at Daphne's body or what remained of it. Her eyes seemed to have been scooped out of their sockets, her limbs were chopped off and was scattered around her. There was blood everywhere.
I collapsed and held my stomach as I felt sick.
"It's your fault," the voice said. And now I realized why they were familiar. They were Daphne's voice. "It's your fault," she repeated.
I looked at her head and saw blood coming out of her empty eye sockets and her lips moving.
"It's your fault. It's all your fault. It's your fault," she said and she kept on repeating it like a chant. "I died because of you. They were after me because of you. It's your fault."
Her lips were moving on their own as she kept on repeating those words and her voice was ragged as if every word hurt. I watched those dried lips form their words and heard each syllable until her head suddenly snapped towards my direction.
The last thing I remembered were the sound of her scream piercing through the forest as her empty sockets tried to pull me in before I bolted awake.
