The siren sounded throughout the map, filling the air with a long howl that could lead to freedom or death. You nearly collapsed against the door and started pounding the keys to the exit gate, dread creeping into your stomach. Was that the sound of footsteps? Perhaps it was just another survivor, waiting for you to unlock the doors to freedom-- But it could always be something much more sinister. The hunter, whom you luckily hadn't had the opportunity to meet yet, could be creeping up on you. Your heart was pounding. You were nearly done decoding the gate, and you tried to focus your energy into the movement of your fingers.

That's when the footsteps got louder-- they shook the earth you stood on. Those definitely weren't the footsteps of another survivor. Those were footsteps that meant danger. You quickly turned around to start running, hoping you'd be able to kite your way to freedom. In front of you was the hunter, holding a weapon tightly above your head. Two red, glowing eyes gave a clear warning: The hunter had detention. You quickly stumbled back to the side as the weapon was swung, barely dodging the hit. Two of your teammates had already run out, but Naib was waiting at the dungeon nearby. He let out a scream of your name, and as you went to throw down a pallet, the hunter hit you in the head.

You woke up with a scream, nearly jumping out of bed. Your heart was still pounding. You could still smell the humid air around you. You could almost feel your head pounding from the hit. It took you a moment for you to realize where you were and start to calm down. The room was dark around you, but the bed underneath you was comfortable and warm. The manor was quiet in the night, but you could vaguely make out the sound of someone coming closer. You pulled the blanket tighter around your body and called out, "Hello..?"

The door opened, painting the room in a soft, yellow light. You recognized the figure immediately-- It was Naib, the boy who'd saved you from rocket chairs countless times. He was your favorite teammate, and though you had vastly different backgrounds and personalities, you'd become fast friends throughout the days at the manor. "Hey, I heard screaming," He greeted groggily, running a hand through his hair, "Mind if I come in?"

You nodded your head and reached over your bedside table, flicking on your lamp. The man came over and sat down next to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and holding you close to his side. "Why'd you scream? Did you have a nightmare or something?" He questioned, glancing towards the clock.

"Yeah, sorry I woke you up.." You mumbled sheepishly, shifting a little as you tucked your hair behind your ear.

"Hey, it's fine," He replied, offering a sleepy smile, "I'm always there to be a princess's night in shining armor." You hit his arm a little, face going pink as you grabbed your teddy bear to cover your face.

"What was your nightmare about, anyways?" He questioned. And so you described everything, from the exit gate to the hunter to him screaming out for you. He hugged you close to his chest when you were done, rocking you back and forth a little. You didn't notice the tears starting to roll down your face until he gently wiped them away. Naib didn't say anything for a long time, and you wiped at the mascara that'd started running with the tears.

"Sorry for being a big baby," You mumbled, burying your face against his chest, "I know you don't wanna be sitting here with me crying over a stupid nightmare.. And I know it's dumb that I even screamed in the first place. I need to be tougher. I need to stop being a little bitch and-"

"I don't act like that."

You stared up at him for a minute, eyebrows furrowing as you tried to figure out what he meant. Eventually, you gave up and just asked him instead: "What do you mean?"

"In your dream, I just screamed to warn you but in real life, I would've jumped in front of you. I would never leave a damsel in distress to fend for herself-"

You started hitting his arm, making him laugh and hold you close with a small smile on his face. "You're a dweeb, Naib," You puffed, shaking your head, "And I'm not a damsel in distress. I can handle things on my own! As long as they're not nightmares.." You looked away meekly and stole a glance back to the man, who just snorted in response.

"Yeah, except nightmares. I'll always be there for you when those come." You smiled softly in response and turned to face him, examining him for a minute. The boy's hair was down this time, something he only did for sleep. He looked rough and sleepy, but his eyes showed a world of care for you. Hesitantly, you leaned in to kiss him, and he smiled more before meeting your lips with his.
