A tattered circus tent with strips of charred fabric tailoring off at the edges. An abandoned, rusty slide with nobody to go down it. A carousel that seemed to turn endlessly to an unsettling melody. This is what the Moonlit River Park turned into after a rumored deal with the supernatural ended in tragedy. It was once a beautiful place and held so many happy memories that you couldn't be turned away by the scary stories.
As a child, you spent your summers here. You and your friends adored seeing all the amazing things. The roller coaster was always there to give a thrill. The slides were always filled with laughing kids running up the ladders and slipping down the body. The carousel was always playing that familiar melody that would drift into your ears and get stuck in your mind for days after your visit. The circus, though, was always your favorite. Seeing people do such amazing feats was always exciting, but you had one act in particular that won over your heart.
"Joker," You called out, looking around, "Where are you at today? Are we playing a game of hide and seek?" High-pitched, maniacal laughter came from behind a crumbling wall, and you went to find your prince.
He used to be such a happy clown. Although much different than its once belated sound, his laughter still brought happiness to your heart. He began performing when you were a teenager and starting to lose interest in the Moonlit River Park, but as you grew older, you stayed a loyal audience member for him and him only. Something about him drew you in, and you found yourself falling in love with a person you'd never truly met. He sparked something in you that made your stomach feel like it was filled with fireworks anytime he was around.
After that horrible incident, you were sure you would never see Joker again, and it devastated you. You hated yourself for never getting to know him on a personal level, for never making your move and starting what you knew in your heart would be a whirlwind romance.
Then, you went back to the place you missed so much. Technically, the park wasn't open and you were taking a pretty big chance going there on your own. There could be plenty of dangers in an abandoned amusement park, after all, and you could also get into some legal trouble if there were any cops roaming around. Luckily for you, you didn't run into any of that. In fact, what you found was better than anything you could have possibly wished for.
The circus tent was the last place you explored that day, mainly because of how sad it made you to see it in shambles like that. So many good things were taken on the last day the Moonlit River Park was opened, but the circus was by far the thing closest to your heart. It was also the place where the most lives were lost and where you saw Joker for the last time.
But then he was there, sitting on the stage, humming the tune from the carousel. Without thinking, you'd run over to him, leaping into his arms and hugging onto him. Then, you'd shared a kiss, and he'd laughed, and you'd laughed, and you were filled with bliss once again. Ever since that day, you'd taken any opportunity you could to sneak into the Moonlit River Park to spend time with your precious clown.
"Found you," You whispered as you came around the corner, coming face-to-face with him once again. He laughed a bit more and leaned down, taking you in his arms and giving you a kiss on the forehead, smearing his makeup on your skin.
