Chapter Fourteen

The next morning Carl was finally up and aloud to do a few things. Rick had watched him go off with Lori to feed the chickens. Addy had wanted to go to but rick still wasn't allowing Lori to be near her. He just couldn't get passed his gut feeling to not leave Lori with addy.

Addy looked up at rick as they walked around, she loved having walks with daddy. But she wish he would let her have a chic chic. She wanted to take it for walks and feed it and be it's friend. She huffed and looked up at her daddy with her puppy dog eyes.

Rick sighed and knew exactly what she was going to so "no baby. I told you. The chickens have to stay with chickens. It can't be your pet. I know you like them and you can go and see them but it can't be a pet baby. I'm sorry." He felt bad when her little head dropped down again. He knows kids go through a stage of really wanting a pet. Carl did to. Though he was still in that stage. He remembers a couple days before his coma. Carl had stated teaching her to give me the puppy dog eyes and beg for a pet. Cheeky little things they were.

He did wish he could give them what the wanted but right now it just wasn't possible. He would try for the future though. Something to make them smile. Teach them some good life lessons that don't have to do with surviving through the walkers.

They stopped when they herd a whistle. They turned and looked back to see Shane wave at them. Rick could tell it wasn't life of death since he wasnt frantic or anything. He turned and kneeled down to addy "alright baby meeting time, how about a race?"

Addy thought about it for a second then smiled cheekily. Rick knew she was up to something but was prepared to let her. She tried to give him a push but really it was hardly a tap. Rick fell back dramatically like she had actually managed to push him over.

He watched her take off towards the group. He smiled at the sound of her uncontrollable giggle as she ran. He waited a few seconds the. Go to his feet and ran after her. She giggled harder, hearing him chasing. "Ohhh that's not fair baby. You cheated. I'll never be able to catch you now." She ran as hard as she could with her tongue hanging out. She was so focused she didn't noticed rick was just a step behind her. Staying slow so she could win.

She reached the truck with a slap. Rick quickly lifted her up and spun her around "woooow, look at you baby. You beat daddy. Even if you did push me over you cheeky little monkey" he said blowing a raspberry on her cheek. She couldn't control her giggles.

Everyone smiled at the sight. It gave everyone else hope, seeing such a happy pure moment. Rick walked to the front of the Cherokee where some of the others had gathered. They started getting everything ready for the next search. Rick was working everything out around the few signs that had of Sophia.

"Creek flows south, past that farm house Daryl found. Maybe Sophia dropped the doll there. The current brought it downstream." Rick said as he looked over addy's head and down at the map. Shane was beside them, clearly frustrated that they were still looking.

"So what, you think she took this road here and then she went north?" Shane asked pointing at another spot on the map. Addy nodded along as if she knew what they were talking about. Rick held her hands in his while still focusing on the discussion "yeah... what's up that way?" Rick turned his head to look at jimmy. Addy and Shane both looking at him as well.

Jimmy thought hard " a housing development. It went in maybe... 10 years ago." Rick nodded this sounded good "take a run up there after gun practice." Rick looked down at addy for a second then back at Shane "I'll hold down the fort here, but take back up. After what went down with daryl, I don't want anyone going out alone. We stay in pairs."

Shane was frustrated but didn't argue "I'll take suggestions on a partner." Rick thought about who then said "see how they do on the range, then take your pick." They all turned when glen walked up to them carrying a basked of fruit. Rick took two pieces for him and addy. Glen handed him a piece of jerky as well for them to share.
