Chapter Nine

It was early the next morning, rick was in the bathroom giving addy a long needed bath. After a good night sleep and some food, she was doing a lot better this morning. "Ok baby, head back." Rick says getting her to tilt her head back. He cupped his hand over her eyes and used a cup to tip some water over her hair, washing out the conditioner.

Once her was done and satisfied she was sqeeky clean he stood up and grabbed a towel. Helping her with one hand "alright now stand up. Good girl. Arms up." She smiles at him and flung her hands up flinging drops of water all over him. He laughed and picked her up in the towel. "Who's daddy's clean little girl." She giggled "me!" Rick kissed all over her cheeks as he tried to dry her while cuddling her.

There was a knock on the door. He opened it to find Maggie "hey, I find some clean cloths that should fit her. There a little old fashioned but still clean. Rick smiled "what do you say baby " addy's smiled up at Maggie "peas." Rick and Maggie laughed "can yo say thank you baby?" Addy thought about it for a second then smiled again "thank you baby"this just made them laugh again 'thank you Maggie." Rick said and took the cloths.

He finished drying her then dressed her in a small pair of denim shorts and a little frilly plad button up. He thought she looked adorable. He left the bathroom with addy in his arms and started walking down stairs smothering her cheeks in kisses.

Once down stairs he walked back into Carl's room and seen hershel checking him "how's he doing?" Rick asked. Hershel was feeling Carl's head "fevers gone down." Rick sat down beside Carl's bed sighing with relief. Addy tried reaching for Carl but rick just patted her back soothingly.

Carl started to shift in his bed as he started waking up. Everyone sat forward watching him closely. Addy was so happy "car!" Lori was about to shush her but Carl's eyes opened and looked right at addy. Addy clapped happily while everyone else smiled down at him.

Rick gently sat addy on the side of Carl's bed and leaned over the two of them watching closely "Carl?" Carl looked between his parents "Sophia? Is she ok?" Ricks heart broke, he didn't want to tell him they hadn't found her yet so he lied "fine..she's fine." Lori spoke over him pushing her arm passed addy almost knocking her off the bed "rest, we'll be right here."

Rick was quick to step addy from falling and tried not to react infringement of Carl. He looked up to see Hershel look at him concerned. Rick just shook his head and sighed. Lori tried to put her hand on ricks but he moved before she could and held addy's sides as he looked down at addy and Carl smiling at each other. Addy very gently tried to lean towards Carl. Rick could see she was trying to be carefull so he picked her up and held her over Carl carefully letting her lean down and kiss Carl's head. Carl smiled and went back to sleep.

Rick sat back down in his seat with addy on his lap as Lori sat on the bed beside Carl. Lori watched rick, wishing he would just look at her. Hershel could see Lori was about ready to start a fight with rick but t-dog came rushing through the door "they're here."

Rick stood up and bent down to Carl, kissed his forhead the walked out the door with addy on his hip. He walked out the front door to see daryl climbing off his bike and the others getting out of there vehicles. He started walking down the steps towards them and Lori, Hershel and t-dog followed close behind.

Dale walked up first "how is he?" Before rick could answer, Lori walked up beside him and latched onto his arm "he'll pull through. Thanks to Hershel and his people." Rick tried to hold his anger at her pushing the limits but he continued "and Shane. We would have lost Carl if it weren't for him."

Dale smiled relieved and hugged rick and addy together. Rick was thankful the Lori let him go to go and hug carol. Dale let go and patted his shoulder, noticed how much he tensed because of Lori. He tried to keep ricks attention of her "how'd it happened?" Rick sighed sadly "hunting accident....that's all, just a stupid accident..." everyone was silent until Hershel spoke up "if you don't mind, we'd like to hold otis's funeral now." Rick nodded and turned to the group 'Otis was the man that accidentally shot Carl. He didn't mean to and he gave his life trying to save Carl's. I want to show my respect and gratitude. Y'all can join if you wish."Everyone nodded and called behind as Hershel and his family made there way over to where they had made a grave for Otis.
