Chapter Ten

Rick has been siting there for a while. He looks out at the group and see's Lori try to wave at him right as Hershel leaves the house. He stands up and faces him. Hershel smiles at addy's drawing. Rick speaks up " we could give you more space. Set up over by the barn"

Hershel shakes his head "no. No need for that. Better you stay close to the house. I don't say this easy rick. We don't normal take in strangers. I can't have your people thinking this is permanent. Once you find this girl and your boy is fit for travel, I expect you'll move on. We need to be clear on that."

Rick doesn't know how to feel about this. He just wants somewhere safe for everyone, for his kids. Hershel is about to walk away when he see's Lori watching them. He turns back to rick "need me to take addy?" Rick looks over to Lori as well then nods.

"Addy baby, go with Hershel" she quickly looks up "where?" She asks innocently. Hershel replies "we'll first we're gonna put some shoes on you, and then your gonna come see the animals." Addy's face lights up straight away. She quickly jumps up and gives her daddy a quick hug before racing off with Hershel.

Rick looks down at the ground trying to figure out what to say to Lori. It doesn't take long because she makes her way over now that he's alone. "Finally, never thought I'd ever get you alone." Lori says as she try's to put her arms around ricks neck. He quickly pushes her arms away and steps back "Lori we need to have a talk. Away from everyone else." He says sternly.

She doesn't like the way he's acting. She's not gonna let him push her away again so she follows him as they walk around the back off towards the paddocks.

Addy see's them go when she comes out of the house with her shoes finally on. Hershel see's she looks a little sad and looks up to see rick and Lori walking away. He quickly gets her attention back "come on addy. We have some chickens to feed." This gets a smile back on addy's face "ya? Chic chic." She flaps her arms around as if she's flying. Hershel laughs "addy chicken;s down fly." Addy looks at him confused them laughs "no tricky. Chic a bird. Bird flys" she goes back to flapping ahead of him. Hershel just smiles and leaves it be since she won't understand.

Rick leads Lori out to one of the empty walk ways between the padlocks. He leaned against the gate and looks out at the land. Lori stands beside him thinking. She needed to distract him before he gets to what he was going to say so she grabs his waist and try's to seduce him "mm baby. It's nice out here. No one could see what we get up..." before she can finish, rick flicks her hands off his waist and steps away.

Rick runs his hand down his face in frustration. "Damn it Lori! Enough! I thought I made this clear before but you just keep pushing it. I can't be with you. Not when you treat our baby girl the way you do. Not my little addy...."

Lori gets pissed "Damn it rick! That's all you ever say! Addy this, addy that! She's all you ever talk about. Ahhh! I never should have gone through with that pregnancy. Look at what she has done. She ruined us. Everything was perfect before she came along! Why can't you give me even a fraction of the affection that you give her? Since she came along your always with her. Never me. Why?!"

Rick fires back "are you fucking kidding me right now lori? She is OUR daughter. But even before she was born you changed. You blamed me for getting you pregnant, you blamed me for being sick during the pregnancy."

Lori screamed back "what do you expect? I never wanted her! We were perfectly happy without her!"

Rick cut her off "no Lori, she has helped complete our family. It wouldn't be the same without her. In the best possible way. But your to selfish to see that. All you cared about what the fact that you were no longer the centre of attention. You weren't the only female in the house. You were no longer the only female in my life. All you cared about was yourself! And then.... then when our perfect little baby girl was born and struggling... you didn't care.... not once. I tried to be supportive but you would just blow up. Then you started neglecting her. That.... that I could not take. Not my baby. I couldn't even think about being close to you when you treated her like you did. And it got worse over the past 3 years. You have never even once hugged her, never kissed her, never told her you loved her. You weren't there all the times I've had to rush her to the hospital. Don't even get me started on that last one. You remember right? Turning her baby monitor off so you couldn't hear her cry.... she could have died Lori! But no, you just sulked the hole time while I was trying to save our little girls life. How can I possibly be with the women who can treat her baby like that. I love you lori but I just can't do it. I can't. My kids will always come first. We are done. Over. And you sure as hell can stay away from addy. I never want you near her again. I don't trust you. Not with her. Not after what you said about wanting her dead. Stay away from me, and stay away from my baby girl. Mine! I won't stop you from Carl. You love him and he loves you. I will work with you for him, but only him. I'm not having this conversation with you again..." he rush's passed her and off down the track to get away from her quickly.
