Chapter Twenty Five

Rick was standing in the barn, looking up at one of the over head posts. He was trying to find the place to hang the rope. He didn't really want to do this but he was desperate to protect his kids and everyone else. He turns when he hears someone coming up to the second level of the barn. He see's Lori walking in, looking at him so he walks over to her to see what she wants.

Lori doesn't look directly at him "so...ah... the nights are getting colder and we're pretty exposed. I was thinking.." rick had already started thinking about this stuff though so he started answering before she finished "maybe we could clear this place out. Station some lookouts up here."

But Lori just look around the area in disgust. If's be honest with himself. He wouldn't want to kids staying out here in this and now that Carl is better and out in the tents, addy has been wanting to sleep out there with the, as well. He nodded "or we could talk to Hershel about staying in the house." She clearly liked this idea better "yeah." She nodded.

Rick nodded again and looked away from her "all right." He walked passed her over to the ledge and started tying the rope into a nose." He thought since she had obviously gotten the answer she had wanted to her question that she would leave but obviously he was wrong as she started questioning him.

"Is that really the best way to do this? To string him up?" Rick didn't bother looking up at her "well, I have no idea. It's my first time." Rick may not really like being around her right now but he still wanted to keep things ok for the sake of Carl and keeping the group together so he tried to not be a complete asshole "look, I know how you feel about the death penalty, but.."

Lori cut him off "and I know the world has changed. If after everything that's happened, you and Shane agree on this." Rick knew what she meant since him and Shane really aren't getting along right now but asked her "so you support this decision?" Lori didn't look at him as she answers "if you think it's best." But rick wasnt sure if she's just saying this any some kind of attempt to get back in his good books or if it's how she really feels. He really wishes she would just be more straight forward with everything.

There was silence between them for a few seconds before Lori spoke up "you never did tell me what happened on the road with you and Shane. Rick scoffed "he won't be a problem anymore. I thought you two would be telling each other everything by now." Lori frowned. But rick just turned away and started making his way outside, Lori following not far behind him.

Once outside they saw Carl walking away from carol. Nothing seemed wrong at first until Carol started making her way over to them quickly. Rick could hear how upset carol was as she said "you need to control that boy." Rick frowned "Carl? What happened?" She replied "he's disrespectful"

Rick didn't like what he was hearing "did he say something?" Carol looked back towards where Carl had gone "something cruel about Sophia." Lori went to put her hand on ricks arm "we'll figure it out. It's ok. I..." rick pulled his arm away as Carol turned on her "it's not ok." Rick tried to calm carol down "I'll have.. I'll have a talk with him." Carol nodded at him, greatful that at least he would step up and do something about it.

Rick quickly tried to catch up with Carl. He was also slightly alarmed because addy was with Carl the last time he had seen them and now she wasn't. He finally caught up with him "Carl! Come over here." Carl stopped and walked back over to him and could tell he wasn't happy with him. At first he was scared, thinking he had found out about what happened with Randal.

Rick questioned him "did you talk back to Carol?" Carl was relieved that it wasn't what he thought but still didn't want to get into trouble so he lied "no." Rick didn't like that he lied to him just them and he could tell he was lying cause Carl couldn't look him in the eyes "she says you did. You can't talk back to people like that."
