The chilly zypher of the November morning whooshed by, causing the group of young men and a woman to brush their frozen fingers against their hairs gently. It's been a year since she mysteriously disappeared from this world. A whole year filled with saddness, longing and struggle.
A year backwards on that dreadful night; when a brother had lost his only sister whom he cherished more than anything, a father had lost his only daughter after his wife, a juvenile girl had lost her only best friend, 11 boys had lost their most precious friend.
Lastly, a youthful boy with big dreams ahead, had lost the only love of his life, his world.
The moon and the stars had cried in unison at her sacrifice. The wholesome orientated family was ripped apart that night.
< < flashback > >
The dark evil cloud of grief and regret overshadowed them as they half heartedly left the forest. What had occurred, was beyond the barriers of reality. They couldn't help but accept the act of fantasy, which she had committed in order to protect her love. Once again, the value of love and existence of supernatural had been proved by the cost of a young girl's life. They believed that what they had witnessed will be a obstacle in the path of them returning to their normal lives and will haunt them forever.
Mingyu went to his room with a defeated heart and fatigue body. He was feeling empty and lost. Her presence still lingered in his room; as if she never left. Releasing an exasperated sigh, he changed his attire which reeked in the smell of blood.
The envelop finally caught his attention. There was a letter inside it, written and folded with extreme care and delicacy. However, the exquisite pain behind every word was vivid enough.
With trembling hands, he began to read the letter.
Dear Mingyu,
By the time you're reading this, I'm probably gone right? I should be. I was never really worthy of your love. I hid the truth and lied about my dark past to you; yet you embraced me with your warmth. Truth is, the hunters never stopped hunting me. Well, that doesn't matter anymore now. All I want to say is, I never cheated on you. I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry for unintentionally hurting you with the breakup, with my lie. I know you wouldn't believe me, but I did it to protect you.He again broke down into tears, his heart sunk like a cannonball. He continued reading,
Thank you for everything. Every moment spent with you and every memory of yours will always be the best and most precious thing I could ever ask for. Take care of yourself and my brother for me. You may hate me but please remember, I love you. I'll never stop loving you. Farewell.
Yours ever,
Miyeon.Hatred for himself grew more as he finished reading the letter. He felt guilty for misunderstanding her and not staying by her side when she needed him the most. All he had done for the next few weeks was crying, begging for forgiveness to the Almighty for his mistakes and for her to come back to him again.
Unfortunately, he wasn't the only one who was feeling guilty.
Jeonghan blamed himself for not understanding her signals and for breaking the promise, which he had made to Miyeon about protecting her with his life.
Wonwoo was remorseful for not fulfilling his duties as her guardian angel and for not holding her longer.
Joshua was ashamed of himself for not confronting everyone regarding this matter beforehandedly. If he had dug deeper and told everyone about that threat, then maybe she would've been alive today; he thought to himself.
Their lives became a mess.
< < end of flashback > >
In the present, they accepted the fate. They were willing to move on, at least most of them. Some were still struggling with the consequences of her death. They couldn't arrange a proper funeral because apparently there was no dead body found. Nevertheless, they returned to their normal lives without her.
They were all sitting in the backyard, indulged in reminiscence of good old times. Today was her death anniversary. Amazed by how quickly time flows, one year passed just like that. "You know when she first moved in, she was so scary. I was really intimidated of noona that time. Who knew she'd become such an important chapter of our lives. I miss her." The youngest broke the long silence. "I was even scared to talk to her. But she was so pure, sweet and warm inside." They stole secret glances at each other while smiling sadly at Soonyoung's words.
"Few days after she moved in with us, she told me something," Jeonghan inhaled, ruffling his locks. "She told me not to cry too much if something happens to her and always smile whenever I think of her. I didn't understand her words back then, but now I do. She had already foreseen the future. She fought alone against the hunters for all those years. God knows what terrible things she had to go through." His voice became hoarse, "If only I knew..." A lone tear undemandingly slipped down his rosy cheeks, he let it fall.
The oldest put an arm around his masculine shoulders, "It's not your fault Jeonghan. It was tragic and out of our controls. But we've a future ahead of us. She may not be involved in that future but we've to let go and move on right? I'm certain that she would never want to see us dwelling on the past and feeling sad. She'd always want us to be happy right?" Seungchol consoled him, drawing circles on his back.
"You're right oppa. We'll never forget her. She'll always be alive in our hearts." Liu Xin noted with a wistful grin, receiving a headpat from her boyfriend. Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Mingyu are you going to move on?" Dokyeom asked hesitantly. He was simply concerned about his best friend as he showed no signs on healing like the others did.
"You mean finding someone else? No never. No one can fill in her void. She is tied to my soul Dokyeom," He paused with an exhalation of breath. "She is my angel. My love for her will never falter." He added. Acknowledging his undying love for her, his friends sighed.
Mingyu looked up at the sky, shaded with cotton like clouds; his vision getting blurry with tears he was struggling to hold in.
"I miss you. Wherever you are, rest in peace. I love you Yoon Miyeon."
The End.
