                          Gunshot

Third Person's POV:

His lips parted as a small gasp of disbelieve escaped from his mouth. His mind went absolutely blank. Questionably staring at her, he shook her body delicately; as if he was scared that she'd break."You must be kidding right? Come on this isn't the time to joke." He scoffed reluctantly.

Her body remained stiff, the dim city lights somehow managed to hide her teary eyes. Miyeon brutally bit her inner cheeks in order to hold in her tears that were threatening to pour out. "I'm not kidding." Was all she could say with a hoarse voice.

The male couldn't comprehend any of her words. He didn't want things to end like this; he never wanted his world to turn from everything into nothing like this. "W-why? Did I do something wrong? We can fix it. If I'm doing something which you aren't liking, then I'm willing to apologize as many times as you want. But please don't end things this way."

Composing himself, he therefore clutched her ice cold hands. Despite the circumstances, she let him hold her. Since she apprehended that perhaps this would be the last time she felt the warm sensation of his touch on her skin.

"I feel like things aren't working out between us...I just..." She trailed off in remorse, unable to utter any sensible words. She expected him to let go of her by now, but he didn't. Instead, he held her closer and more securely. "If anything is wrong then we can talk it out and fix it. You know that."

Suddenly, his lips quivered into a thin line. The grip loosened when a thought pierced through his mind like an sharp arrow.

"D-do you like someone else?"

She sighed frustratedly.

"Maybe I do. I'm sorry."

She lied. Again.

Hopefully, for the last time.

She thought it would be for the best if he resented her till the last moment. At least, he would get less hurt when he finds out the truth.

To her, nothing mattered more than his happiness.

"How could you do this to me? How could you cheat on me like this..." Mingyu's voice fainted in daze; the distance between them enlarged as both of them began to walk away from each other with wobbly steps.

Her heart sank, low into the depths of heaviness and despair. Tears of immense guilt and regret streamed down her cheeks, making her eye sight fuzzy. She fisted the fabric near her chest, she felt like someone punched a hole inside her heart with the force of the entire world.

"I'm so sorry. So sorry for hurting you. I'm sorry."

Her breath hitched; no matter how many times she apologized like this would be useless. She hated herself for lying to him till the last moment, even if it was for his own good.

The smallest spark of light and hope had eventually faded away. The illuminating azure sky was replaced with the dark shades of pitch black, the round silver tray of moon vaguely peeked through the ash clouds.

With an aching heart and agony of mind, she returned home.

Mingyu had already arrived before her. Sitting on the couch lifelessly, he glanced at her exhausted figure apathetically. He tossed his head to the other side in an attempt to hide the repugnance that was radiating from him.

With a disappointed sigh, he sprinted towards his room.

He didn't show it but;
He was deeply hurt.

She was hurt seeing him hurt.

Miyeon changed her attire; she wore the scarlet scarf that her mother gave her when she first discovered her ability. She kept it with her all the time. It was really precious to her and the only memory which her mother had left for her to cherish.

The world is cruel indeed.

After a long battle with the raging depression and utter silence, she glimpsed at her clock.

It was time.

She inhaled and exhaled, mentally preparing herself to face her fate. Before leaving, she checked on everyone for the final time. With a lingering thought, she quietly watched them doing their crazy enthusiastic activities from far away.

They're beautiful people, she thought.

Mingyu wasn't in his room nor with them. Probably wandering somewhere to divert his mind she presumed. With silent steps, she left an envelop on his desk. Her eyes landed on a photoframe that he kept beside his bed on the night stand. It was a picture of him and her smiling brightly under the golden rays of sun. She brushed her fingers against the crystal glass frame.

'I really loved you. Goodbye.'

She murmured while closing her eyes that had become blurry by then.

With calculated movements, Miyeon exited the house. She sneaked a brief look at it. This house had given her so much joy, to the point where she couldn't even imagine it. This house wasn't a mental asylum like she thought it was. This house was a ball of joy and laughters, full of hopes and endless possibilities.

There was no holding back.

Just regrets.

Dragging her heavy feets, she sauntered into the woods.

Little did she know, she was being followed.

The moon fully rose, enlightening its surroundings with balmy rays of pearly light. Miyeon arrived at the centre of the jungle from where the moon could be seen vividly. She smiled dolorously at it. It seemed extra round and fuller than it ever was.

"I know you can hear me. Show yourselves you ruthless monsters."

An evil chuckle could be heard faintly from the shadows behind the trees and bushes. The shadows started moving abruptly.

"Surrendering yourself to us, daughter of the moon?"

She scoffed at those demon like silhouettes. "You named me daughter of the moon. Why eliminate her like this?" One of the hunters spoke in a foreign language which she could distinguish very well. "The nature seeks balance. Your existence and ability is ruining it. If things run this way, then the whole system will crumble. To maintain balance, we need to get rid of you."

They pointed a gigantic gun at her direction. Pretending to be tough and not apprehending what they had said would be a futile attempt. So without any words, she forced her eyes to shut close and waited for the sharp metallic silver object to penetrate her skin and flesh.

An unusual sensation travelled through her entire body, sending vibrations all over it.

'Is this what death feels like?' She thought to herself.

It is said that when you die, you see a strange bright ray of light. But she saw nothing except for complete darkness.

No hope, no light.

A loud distinct sound was heard. But apparently she didn't feel any pain or any of that red liquid coming out of her body.

'Am I finally dead?'

Hesitantly, she opened her eyes. Her hands and legs began to tremble enormously as she realized that she wasn't the one who was shot. Someone else took the shot for her.

It was Mingyu.
