The next class was mathematics, which had already instilled in me partial dread. I could only hope that the lesson would go by without a hitch and that I wouldn't end up detonating under the levels of stress. Emmy and I could get as anxious as each other. She just tended to get anxious over joining the sports team and matters like that, while I got anxious about going to class and messing up answering questions in front of the others. I supposed that it was actually quite ridiculous but I couldn't help being the way that I was.

At least I had my thoughts of Courtney to help distract me from the whole thing. I didn't know whether I liked her or was just intimidated by her. All I knew was that I wanted to get to know her better. I had wondered what had happened between she and her ex-girlfriend. I supposed there didn't have to be exact answers behind that one, though. Things happened in relationships all the time and people just had to try to move on from them. It was simply how the world worked.

Either way, I made myself forget my thoughts for a moment so that I could focus on Mr C's lesson. I adored him as a teacher but it didn't change the fact that his answers gave me a third degree headache.

Fortunately, the lesson didn't go on for all that long before the bell rang.

I guessed that just meant that I had worked much harder this time around than I usually did, which made me smile. I did a good thing.

I made my way out of class with Emmy by my side and she gave me a hug goodbye. My plans were to get the bus home. Ordinarily enough, I would have been driven home by Emmy but I knew that she had a dentist appointment. It was fairly important that she attended that. I would miss her though. The two of us wouldn't be able to continue to gossip about everything that had been going on at school recently. Either way, I supposed that I was just going to have to deal with that. Perhaps I could gossip with Bow about everything.

I wasn't sure what capacities five-year-olds had for understanding relationships and college drama, though. Either way, I walked into the house and up to my room so that I could place my bag down upon the floor.

I then walked into Bow's room, so that I could play trains with him for a short while. It was quite a nice time, actually. Soon enough, the phone began to ring, so I stepped out into the hall to answer it.

"Hey you," a voice said. I recognised the voice but I definitely didn't have this number saved to my phone.

"Courtney?" I asked.

"Yeah! Emmy and I are hanging out after her dentist appointment. I had an appointment today too. What a weird coincidence, right? Anyway, the point is that I have your number now, just thought I should let you know. See you around," she said and then ended the call before I could even say bye.

I didn't care. I didn't care that Emmy was spending time without me. I truly hoped, though, that I wasn't about to get replaced by this leather-jacket wearing, silver-haired, late to class girl.
I swallowed, as I looked towards my hand to see that my knuckles had become a little white. What was honestly going on with me? I was supposed to be moving on from my crush on Emmy. All it had ever done was complicate matters too much. Why would I even want to think about that anymore? I sighed and then swiftly looked up when I heard someone approaching me down the hall. I looked up to find that my mother was stood there with a pleasant smile upon her face.
"Do you want to come and do some meditating with me, darling?" she asked me.

My mother could tell when I was anxious. She had even been the one to suggest that I attended counselling sessions a few years back. I had never been all that sure how much they had helped me, in all honesty, but it had been alright attending them.

I supposed that my anxiety had been easier to deal with since I had started.

"Alright," I said in agreement.

So, my mother and I made our way downstairs and into the front lounge so that she ccould put on some meditation music and light a few candles.

The two of us sat in tranquility for a short while, at least, before Callie entered the room and smiled between the two of us.

"So...Ben and I are going on a date soon," she told me.

Before I could even begin to address that, there was a knock upon the front door.

Could it have been that my saviour had miraculously arrived?

I decided that it was about time for me to go and check it out.

I hadn't been expecting to see Emmy when I opened the door, but I knew that I was glad that she was there.

"Hi," she greeted me, "I hope you're not mad at me for hanging out with Courts," she said.
Oh, so she had a nickname for her now. Cool.

"Of course not, Ems. I love you. You can hang out with who you want to. How was it?" I asked her.

"She's so gorgeous and so lovely. I actually really like her," Emmy told me.

Of course, she would. I wasn't jealous. Not jealous. Not one bit. That wasn't something that I had ever felt before in my life.

"Okay," I said.

"Okay?" she asked.

"Yeah-yeah! I'm glad you had a good time," I said, trying to seem at least a little more optimistic even if I most certainly didn't feel it.

"Alright, well I'm glad it's cool with you. I'll see you at school tomorrow, Phoebs," she told me.
Soon after that, Emmy wandered away from the house.

I closed the door behind me and had to come to a very real conclusion: I was jealous.
I needed to do everything that I could to stop feeling like that.
