Morning hit like a brick to the head. You vividly remembered part of last night and how strange your friends seemed, the looks in their eyes slightly shaken. After you had seen them, the details started to blur and all you could recall was how sleepy you suddenly felt. In what seemed like just a blink of an eye, the sky turned light gray outside and the moon had left. Realizing this, you thought to yourself, "How did I get so tired so suddenly?"Despite the odd encounter, however, you were at least glad that you managed to sleep, though your eyes felt quite puffy afterwards. Now, you were in the kitchen with Yerim, munching on some gummy bears as you wander endlessly on your phone. "Come on!" squealed Jisoo nearby as she continued taking up 4 cards in UNO, her face painted with a field of roses, while racking up a hefty amount of cards.
Chaeyoung continuously cackled in her face as Lisa commented on Jisoo's deck from time to time, which further intensified the redness of Jisoo's face from frustration. "Just admit it, Jisoo. You suck at this game." Chaeyoung mischievously remarked with a sly grin plastered on her face.
Jisoo pouted at her comment. "No! You guys are just ganging up on me. You guys are so m-"
Before Jisoo could finish her sentence, the doorbell rang, which immediately puzzled everyone. Ever since that day, the city had worked hard rebuilding everything again, which made many of Jennie's friends and relatives very busy for a while now, assuming that this person is close with Jennie, of course. You turned around and everyone stared at each other in perplexity on who this could be.
After a couple more rings, Jisoo hurried to stand up. "I'll get it..." Jisoo said quietly as she made her way to the door. Before Jisoo could reach the knob though, loud footsteps were emitted from upstairs and Jennie's voice was heard. "Wait, Jisoo, it's my friend!" said Jennie, who quickly rushed down the stairs. Dashing to the front door, she unlocked the door and opened it to reveal a quite petite woman on the other side of the door.
She wore a light purple sweater and form-fitting jeans that cuffed at the ankle. With a small smile, she stepped inside the house and began to embrace Jennie. "Jennie! Oh, how nice it is to see you again! Are you okay?" The woman exclaimed happily while hugging Jennie.
Jennie giggled and answered back. "I'm glad to see you too, Joohyun. Yes, I am doing alright." Jennie said before moving away from Joohyun's embrace.
Looking at Jisoo, Joohyun perked up a sweeter smile. "Hello, you must be...Jisoo? I'm Bae Joohyun, Jennie's friend." Joohyun said in a friendly, but softer tone as she pulled out a hand for Jisoo to shake. Jisoo nervously chuckled and shook Joohyun's hand before pulling it away.
Meanwhile, curious by the noise from the front, you got off the seat and made your way to a corner, listening to the conversation happening. "I'm sorry if my visit is kind of weird in the middle of this entire mess. I-." The words began to fade into incoherent murmurs and your eyebrows furrowed.
You peeked over and stared at Jisoo who seemed to be talking to Joohyun with a timid expression. Eventually, you two made eye contact and Jisoo's tense eyes softened.
Distracted by Jisoo's gaze, you had failed to register that Joohyun's attention had moved toward you. "Oh, looks like you have another friend. She's quite an onlooker." Your eyes widened and they immediately darted toward Joohyun and Jennie, who were both looking straight at you.
While a jumpy chuckle fell out of your mouth, your insides was burning up from the embarrassment. With a flustered grin, you left the corner and walked over to the others. "S-sorry about that. I'm Y/N." You said sheepishly, lending out a hand for Joohyun to shake.
Joohyun stared down and her expression faintly tensed up for a moment before returning to its peaceful state before. "Of course, it's fine." Joohyun reassured with a soft voice. She held onto your hand and shook it, her grip awfully vein-breaking.
After a couple quiet seconds, you pulled your hand away and Jennie, noticing how intense the atmosphere has suddenly gotten, decided to speak up. "Ahem, Joohyun. Let's meet the others." Jennie said as she held onto Joohyun's shoulders and slightly ushered her forward. Joohyun, who seemed to be in her thoughts previously, gently bobbled her head and nodded.
Both of them began heading to the living room and you stayed behind, looking at Joohyun in intrigued fashion. "Huh, weird...Jennie never told us beforehand." Jisoo commented as she did the same thing. You nodded in agreement and made a remark of your own. "I don't know why, but there's something about her that seems..." Before you could finish, Jisoo intervened. "Off? Same. Let's not make some dumb assumptions though." Jisoo whispered as quickly as possible before going over to the others.
"Wait, Jisoo-" Your voice was too low and Jisoo proceeded to talk with Joohyun instead, leaving you behind in the front entrance. Sighing, you fell into deep thought.
Perhaps this odd feeling in the pit of your stomach was faux. Besides, the woman seemed nice and quiet. Still, even if you tried to convince yourself otherwise, there was something so off putting about her that made your intestines twist.
A nauseous storm that was ravaging inside your head as you mentally debate yourself.
Meanwhile, Yerim, who had watching Joohyun from afar for awhile, decided to at least let loose a little bit and take a break from the voices inside her by walking up to the lady. "Ahem. Hi, my name's Yerim." Yerim's voice was small, but still able to command everyone's attention. As Yerim lended out a hand, Joohyun's eyebrow perked up and her smile became strange.
"Huh, what a pretty name. I'm Joohyun." Joohyun said, shaking Yerim's hand. Yerim flinched at the sudden grab, but still managed to keep a composed look. As Joohyun began to pull away, she stared straight into Yerim's eyes.
"You seem...familiar. Have I seen you before?" Yerim's eyes widened at Joohyun's question. "Really? I don't think I've-"
Before Yerim could finish, a sharp whimper escaped her mouth and Yerim held onto her forehead, her legs unstably backpedaling. "I'm- Agh!" Everyone looked at each other with concerned expressions and Lisa rushed to Yerim's side. Sharp pains tortured Yerim's head, forcing out painful yelps.
"Yerim!" You yelled as you rushed to her aid. The others, except Joohyun, dashed to Yerim's weakened body and the fear seeped up to their eyes. "Oh, god. She's going through one of those headaches again." Chaeyoung said with a frightened expression. Small, ragged exhales left Yerim's mouth and her eyes slowly shut. The voices near her began to fade into soft mutters and then a pool of unintelligible noises. "Yerim!" Her name echoed as she fell into well of unconsciousness.
Thump, thump...
All Yerim could hear was her slow heartbeat. Her eyes slowly opened again and a limitless darkness flooded her vision. It was cold and empty, like outer space but without the stars that bring a little light. "Hello?" Yerim's voice echoed in the void, even though her mouth was shut. Yerim's body never seemed to land, her limbs awfully weightless.
"Not this again..." Yerim thought, her eyebrows arching in annoyance, although a hint of fear managed to seep through. She was left in a limbo, a slave to her mind. She couldn't force herself to wake up and come back to her friends. Instead, she was alone and faintly frightened, expecting the same shadowy figure to come and drag her. Yerim sighed, causing a large echo to rush through the space, imagining landing on the same, cold floor that held some of her worst memories.
Her eyes gently shut and as she thought about what was about to happen,
She woke up.
