I was sitting with Thorin, speaking with the dwarves about the events that had just taken place. I was also explaining more about what happened to my kingdom and my powers. Although I did leave out my brother purposefully of course. I wasn't exactly ready to tell them that yet. I trust them yes, it's just I hate the sympathy I see in people's eyes when they look at me like I'm some fragile thing that will shatter to pieces if they say the wrong thing.
Bilbo had gone a little way ahead of us to look for wargs. And I kept my ears open hoping that if something were coming this way I would be able to hear it with my elf ears. I noticed Bilbo making his way back to us.
"How close is the pack?" Dwalin asked.
"Too close. A couple of leagues, no more, but that is not the worst of it." Bilbo answered.
"Have the wargs picked up our scent?"
"Not yet, but they will, we have another problem."
"Did they see you? They saw you!" Gandalf exclaimed worriedly.
"What did I tell you? Quiet like a mouse. Excellent burglar material." Gandalf turned toward us boasting.
The dwarves chuckled, while I continued waiting, wanting to hear what else he had to say.
"Will you listen...Will you listen?!" Bilbo exclaimed. I could hear the edge and impatience to his voice.
"Hey!" I shouted. All the dwarves turned to look at me Instead I kept my eyes on Bilbo. "Bilbo is trying to say something else."
"I'm trying to tell you there is something else out there." he nodded toward me appreciatively.
The dwarves faces turned from smiles to frown of worry.
"What form did it take? Like a bear?" Gandalf asked.
"Ye..." Bilbo paused, curious about how Gandalf knew. "Ye...Yes. But bigger, much bigger."
"You knew about this beast? Bofur questioned Gandalf. "I say we double back."
"And be run down by a pack of orcs," I say standing up.
"There is a house, it's not far from here, where we might take refuge," Gandalf says.
I know whose house he was talking about. It was Beorn's. He is a skin-changer the last one I believe. He was the bear that Bilbo saw.
"Whose house? Are they a friend or foe?" Thorin asked.
"Neither he will help us, or he will kill us," I say, making the company turn to me.
"What choice do we have?" Thorin asks.
"None," I say a little too gleefully. I was happy about being to see Beorn, he is a close friend of mine.
A roar split through the air. We start running, going through plains and streams. "This way, quickly!" I shout at the company.
We all run and soon we a house in the distance. "To the house! Run!" Gandalf yells. I watched stunned as Bomber races pass us, faster than anyone. He can really get around when he wants to.
"Open the door!" Gandalf shouts. The dwarves start to throw themselves against the door but it wouldn't budge.
"Quickly!" Thorin urges. He pushes his way through the dwarves and raises the exterior bolt/ The doors open and everyone runs in.
we run inside and try to close it but Beorn sticks his head in, stopping us from doing so.
I see Bilbo pull out his sword and not wanting Beorn to get hurt I put my hand on his head and use the wind to help me push him out. I follow him outside and close the door before the dwarves could even utter a shout.
He roars in my face and my hair goes flying back as his spit goes all over the place. I scrunch my face up but don't put my hands in front of me.
He stops and grunts at me. "You're gonna have to do better than that if you want to scare me, big guy," I said to him.
He grunts again and then looks me dead in the eye. He starts to walk away from me toward the forest again. "Nice talk!" I shout to him, smirking.
I turn around and go back inside the house and just as I closed the door I was tackled with a hug. It was Fili and Kili. I chuckled and hugged them back.
"It's okay, Beorn would never hurt me. He loves me too much." I said with a sly smirk. "I'm sure Gandalf explained who he is?" I ask them.
"Yes, he did," Thorin said and came over and wrapped his arm around my waist.
"Alright now some sleep all of you. You'll be safe here tonight." Gandalf says.
The dwarves all layed out their bedrolls ina n open part of the front room. I layed down on my bedroll that lay next to Thorin's. He gave me a quick kiss laying down next to me, pulling me closer.
"Good night. Thorin." I say laying my head on his chest.
"Good night, Evelyn." I drifted off feeling his arms wrapped around me.
A/N Sorry I was so late with this update I will try to update more often but I can't promise it. Especially with school starting next week I'm going to be a bit preoccupied. So...Sorry in advance!!!
