Sweeney and Betty boarded a tuk tuk back to town. It was such an awesome day that I couldn't wish to come to an end. On our way back home, Peter began the conversation, appreciating the work of my eyes - for choosing a smart and beautiful lady.

"Oscar, bro we ni mnoma bana. Uko na dem myoung na mrembo." He said.

"Thanks bro. But I hated the fact that she came with her friend. She never told me about that."

"Bro, wacha uwivu msee. What did that lady do to you bad? I think you had enough time with Sweeney in your room."

"Haha... Peter, you're still young and single, you'll understand what I mean when you get to my age."

The way Peter and Betty got so close, I thought there could be something between them. I wanted to ask him about it indirectly and that's why I reminded him that he was still single. Peter smiled and I could see him on his phone.

"Bro, don't think am that single. Am in your league now. See for yourself." He said, while showing me a text in his phone. He already had Betty's phone number and the two began to chat as soon as Betty got into the tuk tuk.

"Peter, that girl you won't manage. Did she tell you her class?"

"Yes. She said she was going to begin her second year this September. She's in Eldoret, Moi University."

"Simple advice bro. If you see a lady from campus has come back in the village to look for a man, just know that she's a reject."

"And if you see a campus man has come back in the village to look for a lady, know that he's a reject."

"What do you mean by that?" I asked.

"I mean what you meant. Why do you want to degrade others and yet you're also in the same boat? Listen, Oscar, don't behave like someone who is cutting the same brach of tree he's stepping on."

"Okay! Pendaneni! You are meeting someone for the first time and you think you're already in a deep love... you're funny."

"Did you meet with Sweeney ten times before you could feel you were in love? Or you're forgetting about your story?"

"Congratulations by the way!" I said. I wanted him to give me little story about Betty so I decided to humble myself. "Those were just for fun bro. Now tell me...how did it go?"

Peter remained silent. He started to walk slowly until I couldn't afford to be at his pace. Maybe, he wanted to stop by the roadside. I decided to give him his personal space. I reached home and found my mom cleaning the utensils and the house. The shopping Sweeney did for her had 3kgs freshfry cooking oil, 5kgs of sugar, 3 bar soaps, 1kg tea, 2kgs Ajab and 3 packets of milk. Mom praised her daughter-in-law, beginning with her beauty to her caring nature.

"My son, once you've found a lady in this new era who cares for you this way...uses her own money to buy for you even clothes, please don't joke with her. Love and keep her. She had told me that there was a day she wanted to leave you because you were lying to her. But I told her have never seen you with any lady and that she is your first girl. Please don't disappoint me, and don't disappoint her."

My mom's statement touched me. It was true she had never seen me with a lady, but that didn't mean I was still virgin. I left for my room. Sweeney texted me that they had reached home safely, adding that she found when Dr Ken had not yet come back from the meeting.

The following day, I saw an unusual behaviour in Peter. It was on a Sunday. We were Anglicans even though only my mom used to go to Church. The last time I went to Church was when I was in my first semester, first year. I was being told that campus was a bad place where students mess up and one had to be prayerful. I used to attend Christian Union (CU) services. What mostly  attracted my eyes were beautiful young ladies. I thought they could come to me by themselves as I was being told in high school. However, after that failed I realized there was no need for me to attend more services. I ditched!
