Peter remained silent. Some questions are said to be rhetoric and therefore, avoiding responding to them is the same as saying "no" or "yes" depending on their contexts. However, my mom's eyes were on him and he had to respond, either verbally or nonverbally. "No!" He said.

"Ooh...no...okay. And can you marry her?"

"No!"

"Then what else do you want from her?"

"Nothing!"

"If nothing, then let me not hear anything again from you about..."

"But mom..." Peter interrupted.

"But what! Shut up that mouth when am talking!" Mom ordered. Peter kept quiet instantly and he had to teach his tongue again on the etiquette, especially when speaking to my mom.

"Oscar must also leave her, mom...just to be fair."

"I'm still dealing with your case. That of Oscar will be dealt with later. He's already a grown up. To you, if you can't marry Betty, because she's even more mature than you, let me not get you talking about her from now. And if you think you're already a man enough, just go for her and remember to go for good. I can't keep a whole father under the same roof."

"Understood, mom!" Peter admitted.

All these time I was lonely with my own thoughts, trying to form and solve different questions that I thought my mom could ask. She turned towards me and I knew things couldn't be the same from then. Her look wasn't anything close to any good news. I had smelled a rat.

"Oscar!"

"Yes mom."

"Before discussing anything, have in mind that I won't accept Betty into my home; that should stick deep into your mind. Now we can start arguing over other things." She said and paused.

"Mom, I know it's not easy for you to understand how long it took me to make such decisions of dropping Sweeney. I trusted her so much, being the first girl I met in my life and I knew our relationship would lead to marriage. But she decided to throw dust into my eyes."

"You trusted her... okay. And now how did you know that she's having someone else in Moi? Because she's saying you were just suspecting that she was cheating on you."

"I got the evidence..."

"How and from who?"

"That day she was here with us for the Christmas celebrations, I wanted to see the photos she had taken while we were eating...okay, I requested to have her phone and she refused. She even went to the bathroom with it. When she was back, I demanded to have access to it because I began to suspect why she was hard on giving out the phone. When I snatched it away, I checked her WhatsApp and saw their chats with Dancan, and even the photos. Here are the screenshots..."

I stood up to take the phone to mom. She looked at the conversations Sweeney was having with Dancan and Otis. I also showed her the strange pictures that she had taken with Dancan at the Waterfalls in Moi.

"Are you sure this can be Sweeney?" Mom asked in disbelief. She couldn't imagine that could be her beloved daughter-in-law-to-be.

"Yes Mom. I was also shocked. Actually, when I remember this I feel like crying. It was just too much..." I said, trying to force some tears out of my eyes.

"What did she say when you asked her about these men?"

"Definitely she said those were just friends. But look, Mom! From those chats and even the photos, can someone tell you that they are not lovers, even if it were you?" Mom kept silent, her eyes still on the chats. "Sweeney has destroyed herself beyond repair!" I added.
