"Sir, are you sure?" I asked.

"Where are you coming from, young boy? Do you think I joke around with children like you?" He asked. He was  raising his voice and I feared other people could listen to us.

"No Sir, I was just asking..."

"For what? Am I not the one who have told you the university forms are over? I have no time to argue with you, bastard." He said and left.

Bastard! Bastard! What wrong did I really do to be referred to as a bastard? But wait! Do I really even know it's meaning in the first place? I asked myself several questions. Anyway, I was not very sure if the forms were over. The application began some three weeks ago and that was the last day. With my head down, I began to pray secretly;

"God, I come before you my Lord. When Sarah lost hope in giving birth, you blessed her with a son. When Job went through a lot of difficulties in life, Lord, you came for his rescue. I'm kneeling and crying before your Cross... Am sorry I lied to my mom that I had done application. Father, may you forgive me. If I fail to get the form Lord, I will be under fire. Open for me the ways. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen."

While I was still seated on the beautiful and green grass, under the tree, my mom called to ask where I was. One of the women she was working with last year in the Bursary Allocation Committee had picked up some two forms for her. One for me and the other one for Peter. She had forgotten to bring them earlier.

"Hello...Oscar." She began.

"Hello Mom."

"Where are you?"

"Mom, I came here and I found the door locked. No one is here. Have been waiting to see if anyone would come but..."

"But are you sure the form is safe? Are you sure that lady took it there?"

"Mom, am not sure. I'm also trying to call her and confirm but she's not receiving any of my calls."

"Come back home immediately. Someone wants to see you now!" She ordered.

"How about the forms now?"

"Just leave and come back."

I left the CDF office immediately and went home. I found her with the other woman who later told me she was called Mama Akinyi. "Good morning Oscar, please take this form and fill it now. Am sorry I forgot to bring it earlier. I need to go back with it now." Mama Akinyi said.

"And what about the other one he had applied?" I heard my mom asking her.  "Now what's wrong with this mom, why can't she keep quiet!" I murmured the words as I was heading to my room to fill the form. Mom remained with Peter's form. She was filling it on his behalf.

"No problem. Am going to feed this to our computer under his name. When the other one comes, it will not go through because the names will be similar. They will be having the same name but different serial numbers. Am the one receiving the forms from the collection desk so I will discard it." Mama Akinyi responded to my mom's concerns.

I was full of happiness. In my heart, I prayed, thanking God for answering my previous prayers. "God bless Mama Akinyi so much!" I said to myself while doing the application.

After finishing, I went back to the sitting room and handed over the form to her.  "Thank you so much Mama Akinyi. God bless you!" I said while she was slipping the forms inside the envelope. She took some tea and left.

"Mom, you're famous, haha. So someone just brings for you forms at the comfort of your room." I began to say.

"Yes! You need to build good relationship with people wherever you are. Friendship matters a lot. Even you, when in school, be close to your lecturers, Students' Leaders and others. It's much vital my son."
