Spend Time With Your People

-----------------------------------------------

"Where are we going?" I laughed as Emmett opened my door before I could even reach for the handle.

"It's a surprise; now come on, you walk so slowly." He laughed, tugging me along lightly by my hand as we entered the double doors of what looked like a school building or a community center. Soft music and talking could be heard trickling through the hallway from a pair of open doors at the end of the hall.

"Emmett!" An old lady cheered, causing me to turn and notice a small folding table placed directly to the right of the entrance. There, two ladies sat with a cash box in front of them, a bunch of bingo cards, and what looked like raffle tickets? I'm not 100% sure.

"Agnes! It's nice to see you." Emmett smiled, grabbing the woman's hand, bringing it to his mouth to give it a light kiss before letting it go. "And this must be Carol. It's nice to finally meet you!"

"Ahh, you are the boy that comes around and helps with events. I've heard so much about you!" The second woman smiled, reaching her hand out for a handshake before looking down at the cash box. "So, what'll it be for the two of you?"

"Carol! Slow down! We need to embarrass him a little more before we let him go!" Agnes laughed, lightly hitting her friend's arm before turning back to Emmett and me. "Is this the girlfriend we've heard so much about? She even cuter than you described!"

"Haha, yes. This is Lucy, my girlfriend. She's moving away for school for a couple of months, so I thought it might be nice to take her here for a nice party before she leaves." Emmett laughed, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck, as he glanced down towards me.

"You sure the two of you want to spend your night with a bunch of old hags? I doubt we'll be able to keep up with you." Agnes laughed, moving to hand Emmett two tickets looking items.

"What are you talking about?! You dance like you are barely twenty, Aggie!" Emmett smiled, giving the older woman a wink before he thanked them and led me toward the open doors.

"Okay, I'm confused." I laughed, reaching for the ticket in his hand, hoping it would give me some sort of explanation. Sadly, no such luck.

"Well, I met Aggie in the fifties when she crashed her car. Of course, she doesn't remember that, but I've been waiting until she was old enough for me to be around without her realizing I don't age." Emmett explained, a smile on his face as he talked about his past life.

"How bad was the wreck?" I asked worriedly. Many people didn't survive car wrecks in the fifties, so it was surprising that this woman was still alive and kicking so many years later.

"She broke her leg and got pretty cut up by the broken glass, but I brought her to Carlisle, and she got fixed up at the hospital. She never knew how she got there, at least as far as I'm aware." Emmett shrugged. "I come here whenever they're hosting an event, and I like to come read with Aggie on Wednesdays since she has no family around to keep her company."
