Chapter 3

After we finished eating Gilbert decided he'd do the dishes, so since I wasn't doing anything I decided I'd help. I washed, he dried.

Gilbert's friend had come over to inspect the house.

"So it's gonna be an exact copy of the one... the original they built in Boone" I heard his friend say from outside the window.

"Really?" Gilbert says exiting the house with the last plate he had to dry.

"Which is no big deal Gilbert..." I heard him reply.

I turned off the faucet as Gilbert came back with the plate. He smiled at me putting the plate in the cabinet.

I smiled back. He then started moving closer to me as he grabbed me by the waist and pushed me up against the counter, his nose touching mine.

I bite my lip as I looked up at him.

"'cause they're all...all Burger Barns are built identical..." the man keeps ranting from outside.

His eyes flickered between my eyes and lips as he started leaning in.

"I mean it's so efficient, it's amazing!"I heard his voice say from outside excitedly.

I smiled and slowly went to move out of Gilbert's grasp. He frowned "c'mon no, don't leave".

I laughed and put my arms around his neck "your friend is extremely excited about something, I think we should go listen".

He pouted "but I'm getting that kiss later,alright?" he said pointing his index finger at me.

"we'll see" I responded smiling at him walking out of the house and going to where the man was, Gilbert following close behind.

"In a matter of a couple days...there can be a whole new restaurant there" His friend finishes.

He spots me and smiles "hey, I'm tucker"He said.

I nod with a smile and extend my hand out for him to shake "nice to meet you tucker, Your one of Gilbert's friends?".

He shakes my hand and nods with a smile "yeah, you his girlfriend?".

I shake my head "no, he wishes, I'm just a friend" I say.

Gilbert puts his arm over my shoulder and smiles "yeah I do wish you were my girlfriend, gonna make that wish come true?" He asked.

I roll my eyes with a smile "I'm not a genie mister, your gonna have to make it come true yourself".

Tucker looked between the two of us with a smile and something in his mind clicked.

"That's her? That's Blair? The girl you've been hung up over since you two started workin' together? That's her?" He asked.

Gilbert coughs and gives him a look that's telling him to shut up.

I looked over at with a smug smile and say to him in a teasing voice "you talk about me to your friends, huh?.

He blushes clears his throat "you may have come up a few times".

I laugh shaking my head at him.

"Anyway, So I was driving past the building site today.You know, it's goin' up right next to...right down the road from Foodland" tucker says continuing his story.

I listened intently, Gilbert had other plans.

"Right" Gilbert says not really paying attention to him, moving away from me to go over to the other side of tucker.

"The general manager was there. So I says...Can I fill out an application? He said, You bet,So I did" he continued and I pay attention.

"you know, and it looks really good. I mean...I might be wearin' one of them uniforms, flippin' some burgers...saltin' some fries" he continues and that's when I get curious on what Gilbert's doing.
