I was at sweeping the floor at Lamson'a grocery. I looked over at the clock and saw that it read 1:37.

Gilbert's more than half and hour late to work, which is weird for him since he's never late.

I sigh then take a deep breath to try and shake any worry away. He probably just overslept.

As if on cue a disheveled Gilbert comes bursting through the shops door.

I peek over at him, hiding behind the chips so that he won't see my curious eyes.

He gives Lamson a nervous look "I'm very sorry sir. I-I overslept and I know that isn't a excuse but-" he says rambling worriedly.

Lamson puts his hands on both of Gilbert's shoulder and says "son, it's fine, just don't let it happen again".

Gilbert nods with a small smile.

He goes over to grab a broom. I quickly move away from my spot and act like I've been sweeping the whole time.

Gilbert doesn't say anything as he sweeps in front of the aisle that I'm in.

I look up and look at Gilbert noticing more about his appearance now that he's closer.

His had small dark circles under them, the top of his nose was a crimson red and his cheeks were slightly flushed.

Needless to say Gilbert didn't look too good.

He actually looked kinda...sick?

I walked over to the front of the aisle and lean onto one of the shelves waiting for Gilbert to notice my presence.

He looks up from sweeping to look at me with a questioning expression.

I look at him worriedly.

"You look like shit" I tell him.

He chuckles "that's always a nice thing to hear" he says groggily.

I walk over to him making him tense up.

He looks diffident as I put the back of my hand on his forehead.

I gasp "Gilbert, your burning up".

He shrugged and gently grabbed my hand, taking it off his forehead as he smiled softly at me.

"It's fine, probably just the flu" he said.

I rolled my eyes "well then you need proper rest".

He bit his lip to contain his smile "you worried about me?".

I blushed "n-no...I'm just saying this so that you won't be sick during Arnie's birthday" I say, proud of myself for immediately thinking of that excuse.

He nods, a playful smile adorning his lips.

We both look at each other, our faces a couple inches apart.

I felt my heart skip a beat when I realize that Gilbert hadn't let go of my hand after he took it off his forehead.

His dark brown eyes locked with my sea green ones and I couldn't help but miss him. Miss his touch, his laughter, the way I felt when I was with him.

I remember yesterday these dark brown orbs had seemed so sorrowful when I had left. Becky gave me a whole lecture about Gilbert while we were hanging out at her place.

She said he wasn't good news and didn't deserve a second chance after what he had done while we were together. She said I should find a man who's stable enough in his regular life so that it'll bring stability to our relationship too.
