I had always known that something was different about Jet.

I just didn't think it was this.

Angels existed?

Demons existed?

"Jade..." Jet mumbled.

"How long? How long have you known?" I whispered.

"I guess ever since I was born," Jet muttered.

I stared at her. "Do demons exist?"

"Everything exists," Jet replied.

"Werewolves? Vampires? Unicorns? Fairies? Mermaids?"

"I told you, everything."

I blinked as the information finally starts to set in.

"I know this is probably hard to believe," Jet sighed. "But I can show you."

"What--"

Black wings appeared out of Jet's shoulder blades, and I gasped. A weird look crept onto her face.

Jet whistled.

A black horse with black, blue-tipped wings, tail and mane plus a pitch-black horn flew into my line of sight out of nowhere.

My mouth fell open.

That was a....

Jet was a...

After a while I unfroze. The first question that spilled out of my mouth was, "What is that?"

Jet glared at me. "The 'that' is a 'she'."

"Sorry..."

The... wait, what was that animal... reared and neighed.

"Calm down," Jet told the animal.

"Um... what is it-- I mean she?" I quickly changed.

Jet rolled her eyes. "It should be obvious," she sighed. "She's a pegacorn."

"Oh," I mumbled.

Jet touched the pegacorn's neck. Then Jet's wings retracted into her back.

Freaky.

The pegacorn stamped its hoof and threw her head back as she neighed when she caught sight of me.

I guess she still hasn't gotten over me calling her a "that".

"Arva, she wouldn't be able to hurt you even if she wanted to," Jet whispered to the pegacorn but I heard it.

"Excuse me?! What is that supposed to mean?" My head snapped in her direction.

Jet turned to me and shrugged nonchalantly. "I am only saying the truth, Jade. No need to get mad."

"You said I'm weak," I accused as I ball my hands into fists.

"Technically I didn't say that," Jet replied calmly, nonfussed about my reaction.

Yeah right. Technically.

The pegacorn, instead, glared at me and stamped its hoof again.

"And what's her problem?" I asked Jet as I stared angrily at the pegacorn.

"Easy there, Jade. Arva has name and feelings too," Jet sighed.

Arva whinnied in her ear. Jet winced.

"Do you mind being my horse translator? 'Cause I don't speak horse," I asked, sarcastic for what was probably the first time in my life.

Jet's eyes flashed with something-- what, annoyance? I didn't know...

Arva the Annoying Pegacorn neighed.

Jet sighed. "Since you asked, Jade, she said, 'I hate that imbecile'."

The stupid pegacorn or whatever it is neighed as if to say, "Joke's on you."

What was wrong with that thing?

Why couldn't it just leave me in peace?

Right, she, as Jet said.

I honestly don't care if it's a she or a he or an it or even a they! I mean, why should I care? It's not like I like that freaky-looking hybrid thing or something.

Arva screamed.

Jet winced.

"Um, Jade... She can sense thoughts... and she understands human language..." Jet muttered. "You were thinking something negative about Arva, right?"

Uh, like, duh... What do you expect?

Arabic or whatever it was called screamed again. And when she realized the name that I wrongly thought she galloped forward and shrieked in my ear.

What? Wasn't her name Arabic? Or was it Arfal?

The thing screamed in both my ears.

"Jade, what the hell are you thinking?!!" Jet yelled over the ruckus the pega-something was creating.

"I don't know why Arabic is being so mean that she is shrieking in my ears like an infant!" I shouted back.

Jet choked. "Did you just say she was Arabic?"

"Um, no? I called her Arabic, I didn't say she was Arabic," I replied in confusion.

What? Why was my sister so shocked?

"Oh, wait, so I got the name wrong? Her name is Arfal?" I asked.

Jet choked again. "Seriously? Jade!"

"What are you talking about?! Can you stop that peg-on-a-corn please?" I yelled.

Jet choked for the third time. I started to wonder if she had swallowed a rock or something and was in danger of dying.

"Jade." She finally calmed down. "She is a pegacorn. Not a peg. Or a corn. And, her name is actually Arva, not Arabic or Arfal. Ok? I dislike my friends to be wrongly named."

"Sorry," I muttered.
