Prologue

"Wala na bang mas corny pa riyan? Kahit isulat mo pa ang pangalan niyo ng jowa mo, hindi pa rin assurance 'yun na hindi kayo maghihiwalay," I muttered at the pabebe couple in matching coats beside me at the Namsan Love Locks Bridge.

"Ano 'yun miss?" asar na tanong sakin nung girlfriend.

Oh dear. Pilipino rin.

"Uhhh... wala! Sabi ko, puwede ko po ba hiramin ang Sharpie niyo?" I asked with a brazen smile.

The boy readily handed me the marker and I immediately broke eye contact, focusing instead on neatly writing our names on the cute yellow-green padlock I had brought.

Andy and Seth. Yep, I'm a hypocrite.

"There you go. Thank you!" sabi ko sabay abot pabalik ng Sharpie marker nila.

The boy looked at me a second longer than necessary, earning me a glare from the girl. O e bakit parang kasalanan ko?

I moved away from them and connected my padlock to similar ones placed on the bridge by countless other hopeful couples. How hopelessly cliché.

I was starting to shiver because of the still chilly spring night and so finally decided to go up the tower.

Ruby Rose, a classmate from college, definitely told me not to bother bringing thick coats. She said it isn't too cold anymore as it's spring already. Ang nakalimutan niyang banggitin ay sa probinsiya siya nakatira, at kung hindi na masyadong malamig doon, hindi ibig sabihin tulad din nito ang temperatura sa Seoul. Buti na lang may dala akong pangporma na coat. It's no match for the cold but it's better than a mere cardigan.

The elevator took me to the 4th floor, and from the observation deck, one can see a pretty spectacular view of Seoul's city lights.

Seth, nasaan ka na ba?

I allowed myself a second of heartbreak before reverting back to excited-tourist mode.
