Kakeru's POV
As I heard a beautiful melody, I saw a girl in the corridor, peaking through the window of the music room. She's now a classmate and I can't remember her name.
I stopped beside her and saw one of the bands that will perform for the festival. It was them she's watching.
I don't really care about winning. It's all about having fun. Competing against one another removes the joy of making music.
"Enjoying the music."
"Yes." She briefly replied in monotone. She then suddenly ducked down. The look on her face was instructing me to do the same thing.
A guy then walked out of the room and spotted us. We stood straight.
"Oh, sorry...we were uhh..." She's nervous and I can tell.
"Just passing by. We stopped and listened to the beautiful sound."
"It's fine. Good luck to your band." I can't help but smile on how genuine he is to me. Looks like we're both trying to have fun with the event.
"Same to you." I now said before walking away. I left the girl.
After a few steps, I decided to look back. They look cute together.
I now climbed the stairs. The music rooms of the 1st to the 3rd floor are occupied at the moment.
My band mates were doing their usual hobbies. There were only 4 of us.
There's Haiji who was sleeping on yhe floor, Nerika reading a book, and Toru busy with her phone.
I now entered, causing their attention to be drawn to me, except for Haiji.
The sleeping gut plays drums, the bibliophile—surprisingly—is a singer while the last plays guitar. I'd be playing the guitar as well.
Toru instantly stood up and began hitting Haiji with a drumstick—something that wasn't new. She hates slackers and Haiji surely is one. She only stopped when he finally opened one of his eyes.
"Wake up already! He's here!" She said which made the other stand up.
"Yeah. Yeah. I'm sorry." Their short conversation ended there right away.
Nerika now placed her book in her bag before standing up like the others.
Unlike the other bands, we chose to go all out pop—specifically Ghost in the flower and Say it by Yorushika. Nerika's voice fits the most, that's why she's the lead singer.
We began our practice.
We only took a few breaks in between, before we finally finished at 12 o clock. Some other students will practice as well. That's the reason why we need to leave now.
Toru and Haiji went home first—together. They live near to each other. In fact, they are childhood friends. It's no wonder how comfortable Toru is when it comes to him—in terms of violence.
I was about to leave the room as well, when Nerika called out my name.
"What is it?" I immediately asked.
"Can you walk me home?" I wanted to say no since I already have a girlfriend, but not much people knows that.
Misuki doesn't like the idea of publicly announcing that I'm hers. She's too shy. Even with that reason, I still couldn't sat no since the dangers of the outside world is surely there. It's even more dangerous if a girl goes out on her own. It'll be forever in my mind if something bad happens to her for saying no.
"Sure." I replied to her waiting question. A smile flashed on her lips. It quickly faded.
We now left the room with our bags on our backs.
People on the hallways threw us glances. Some looked like they thought that we were a couple, while some looked like they were congratulating us.
"They think...we're a couple...huh?" She whispered as we descend the stairs.
"Yeah. I think so." Another round of silence hit us hard. I don't want to be the one who starts a conversation. It'll make her think that I'm interested in her.
"That counts as cheating." I heard Misuki's voice in my head. She's right.
"Do you have...any interests in girls?" Only if you knew.
"I don't want people throwing unfamiliar glances at me for knowing I have you." Misuki's voice once again played in my head. I'll have to keep it a secret until she's ready.
"Yes." One word responses are the best ways to instantly kill a conversation. It's so closed that the one who's asking will be forced to shut up.
We've now passed through the gate made out of metal.
I felt like being poured on by cold water as I saw a girl near it. It's Misuki, and she's on her phone.
Something vibrated in my pocket after a while. A notification.
Why is she here?
My feet fame to a halt as I waved at her.
She smiled for a while, before frowning as she saw the girl beside me. She swiftly walked towards us.
She looked at me with a face I read as "why are you with her?"She's jealous, and I love it.
She then pulled me away from Nerika.
We made sure that she wouldn't hear our conversation."She wants me to walk her home."
"And why did you agree?"
"She's a girl. If anything bad happens to her, it'll forever be engraved in my mind, since I was the only guy she asked to walk her home." My words made her stop her mouth in its tracks.
"Fine. I'll come with you." We now returned to the waiting girl, before we continued our walk.
After a few minutes of silence, the bibliophile/singer decided to break it.
"Kakeru, have you ever considered having a girl, friend?"
"N—" I haven't even finished one word when Misuki interrupted.
"No he hasn't"
"How about a girlfriend?"
"Ye—no he hasn't" I'm laughing inside for seeing this scenario. It's the first time I've seen her this jealous.
I was too busy listening to their Q&A portion that I didn't realize we already reached Nerika's home. She waved at me goodbye—only me, and not Misuki—before she entered her abode. I waved back at her.
My gaze now fixed on the other girl. She was puting, and her eyes couldn't meet mine.
We walked away from Nerika's house. She might be peeking on us. I wouldn't want her to think that we're a couple. As my father always used to say, trains travel quick, but a rumor will always be quicker.
"Are you jealous?"
"No." She instantly answered.
"I know you are. What can I do to cheer up my jealous girlfriend?"
She went silent as she thought of an answer.
"Walk me home."
