Saki's POV
I hate this. Being forced to wear a maid costume is terrible.
I stared at myself on the mirror. I clenched my right hand and kept pulling it back towards me using the other. I might end up breaking a mirror.
The staring contest between me and myself only ended when a girl's voice shouted near me. It's Popo, my bestfriend.
"Wha—Saki, is that you?" I nodded. I might end up being sarcastic with her if I don't shut my mouth. It was her idea to dress me like this. One of her classmates is absent, and now I'm forced to work as a maid in the library.
At least the place they chose for their class is a silent one.
How I hate festivals. Visitors not related to your school get to annoy you, in exchange for money. Why did this school allow such thing? Ah yes. Money.
"Don't forget to smile at the customers okay? Now go." I nodded. It's my favorite gesture. "Yes" or "no" might be short words, but a nod is always shorter.
I now walked towards the library.
It wasn't far since the area where we'll prepare drinks and dessert is nearby. The repetitive shift from chaotic noise to heavenly silence would make others crazy, but not me.
All the noise I'm hearing vanished as soon as I closed the door, after both my feet entered the building.
Everything could be seen due to the natural light coming from the window to the East. Not a single light bulb was open. Everything was air-conditioned so that these lights won't raise your blood pressure while people read. The best time to read is when you're calm, and this place gives you all the calmness you need.
My feet now dragged me towards the area we were allowed to use as a cafe.
The mix of the smell of books and coffee waved me hello. We were only allowed to sell sweets and beverages since the place needs to maintain its calmness. No omelettes could be served.
I now walked up to one of our customers. I gave him the menu.
"Order. Now." I said, causing one of my fellow maids to look at my direction. She then walked up to me.
"Sir, may we take your order?" She said, before looking at me with her eyes wide. It's probably her saying "that's how you do it" without actually speaking
The customer scratched the back of his head before speaking.
"A cup of coffee and a muffin please."
"Yes sir! Be right back!" The other girl joyfully said before pulling me away from him.
"Can't you look and sound more nice? Anyways, take those orders and give them outside." I nodded before I walked out.
A frown made its way to my kips as the sound of silence waved me goodbye.
I did what I was told. I only returned inside when I had the coffee and muffin I needed to serve.
"Here you go...sir." I said before I faked a smile. I can't show my true smile around others. In fact, other than my parents, only one person has seen my genuine smile.
After serving a few more customers, a flash—from what seems to be a phone—struck me from the side. I immediately looked there, only to be met with another flash.
I walked up to the customer.
The frown on my eyes instantly turned into a glare when I realized who's taking pictures.
"Kozachi."
"Hmm? Why? You look cu—"
"Give me the phone."
"No, not until you serve me." His annoying smile became wider.
"Fine. Sir." I said, making the intonation on the second heavier.
"How may I serve you sir?" My lips smiled but my eyes didn't collaborate.
"Just a coffee and a cheese cake." I nodded before getting his order.
I calmed down a bit with the help of thinking that he came just to visit me.
This calmness of mine vanished. He's talking with another girl. She's sitting in front of him with the table between them.
I quickened my pace.
I harshly placed down his orders—making sure that the plates and cup won't heeak—before lending out my hand.
"Phone. Now." He immediately followed my instruction. I put the gadget in the pocket of my skirt before storming off.
I came back to our booth.
"Hey! Good news!" Great. I really need some good news after I have seen that scene.
"One of my classmates was only late, not absent. You're free to go."
"Thank you." I said after I nodded.
While in the dressing room, his phone slipped into my mind. Opening it won't be a problem since I know his password. I brought it out.
A wave of heat filled my face as I saw his wallpaper. It's me in the maid costume.
