King Jisung
• Chapter 11 •
"Hey, sunshine," Cho-a called out and was surprised to see the boy actually turn around.
"What?" Jisung asked, weight shifted onto one leg completely as he looked at her. The boredom in his voice mixed with annoyance as he pressed his hands into the pockets of his trousers.
They were waiting in front of Jeno and Jaemin's lecture room. There were still a few minutes left before the lecture would be over but Jisung promised Renjun to look after the girl.
So there they were, killing time.
Until a moment ago when Jisung said he'd get something to drink for his two friends.
"Can you get me something too?" she asked, her voice for once surprisingly kind as she talked.
She took a step back to lean against the railing behind her, not minding the meter-long way down that waited right behind these metal bars. Instead, she shifted all her weight onto them.
Jisung frowned.
"Since I'm there," he agreed reluctantly, eyes travelling over the girl's figure. "What do you want to eat?""I don't want anything-"
"Renjun said you skipped lunch," Jisung cut her off. "Seems like everyone's snitching on you. So what do you want?"
Surprised by his words, by the question and odd amount of care alone, Cho-a mentally stumbled over her words for a few seconds, leaving the boy waiting.
She mustered him, who just looked at her with an empty gaze.
"Anything's fine," she said. The boy nodded and left.
And right when he vanished behind the next corner, Cho-a let out a deep sigh, running a hand through her hair.
"What's wrong with him?" she mumbled to herself, closing her eyes as she felt the wind brush over her skin and the sun press through her eyelids.
It was a nice day. Warm and clear and beautiful.
And she felt good standing there. She felt calm.
And then she felt two hands on her shoulders, holding her tightly.
Humming to herself and ignoring the empty space and lack of support right behind her back, she didn't even have to open her eyes.
Though for a second she thought it could've been Jisung, she realized it wasn't. Because she smelled oranges and coconut and Jisung just smelled like your average grumpy grim reaper.
"You are getting bothersome," Cho-a mumbled, opening her eyes slowly to spot the girl from a couple of days ago.
"Funny, I could say the same about you," the girl snapped and Cho-a nodded with a fake smile.
"Yeah. Very funny." Looking down at the hands on her shoulders, she frowned. "Do you want to push me down there?"
At which the other girl gasped, faked and exaggeratedly.
"No way! This is just a friendly warning to stay away from Jisung.""I promise you, I would if I could," Cho-a replied quickly but the girl had little faith in her. Instead she tightened her grip and pushed a little against her.
Cho-a paused mentally for a second. She realized that that girl wanted to threaten her. She realized that she tried to be intimidating. She acknowledged the effort too.
But also she didn't really care in the end.
"Are you not scared?" the girl asked at which Cho-a raised a brow.
"Of your noodle arms being strong enough to push me over the railing?" she questioned, watching the girl's expression drop. "Nah."
With a twinge of anger rushing through the girl, she mustered up all the strength she could as she gripped Cho-a tighter. She mentally got ready to genuinely push against her, was almost in the process of doing it too, when suddenly a hand grabbed her arm and pulled her away from Cho-a.
Eyes burning down at the girl, Jisung stood there with his jaw clenched.
"Are you fucking insane?"The girl's eyes widened at the realization. She moved back when Jisung let go of her.
"Jisung I can-""Fuck off," he interrupted. "That's what you can do."
But she stood there for a little longer, contemplating whether or not she should say something else. Different from Cho-a she couldn't see the soft grey swirls mixing in with the brown of Jisung's eyes.
Yet she seemed to feel his anger and so she took another step back before she left.
Only now, Cho-a took a second to take a deep breath as she watched Jisung, who by now eyed her wearily.
"Do you want to die?" he asked, swirls disappearing into thin air as he talked and calmed himself. He offered a bottle of water to the girl.
"What was I supposed to do?" she asked.
Jisung shrugged.
"Punch her?""I don't like violence," Cho-a replied swiftly, bottle clicking open before she took a sip.
Groaning in annoyance, Jisung rolled his eyes.
"Then just act scared."She frowned.
"I wasn't though."Tilting his head back a little, Jisung looked at her in disbelief.
"Well then what were you waiting for?""You." She didn't hesitate which made the boy frown in confusion and her bluntness took him back.
"What?" he questioned.
And Cho-a nodded.
"I was just trying to see what you'd do. Consider it a test of sorts.""You were-" Jisung cut himself off as he tried to wrap his head around the girl's reasoning. Seeing the way she seemed to be so serious about it made Jisung laugh; lowly and shortly.
Just a fleeting moment of amusement before his usual, cold expression returned.
He stepped closer, almost closed the gap between the two when he put his free hand on the railing behind the girl and leaned towards her.
"Try me again and you're dead, darling."
Cho-a grinned amusedly.
"I doubt that."• Down •
