Chapter 18: Looking For You
Lucy Heartfilia P.O.V
Where could Natsu have gone? I roamed around the thick forest trying to search for hints, the tree's shadows looming over me and my sore feet scrunching the on the wrinkled leaves. Suddenly hearing rustling noises from the nearby bushes, I perked up, whispering out nervously, "Natsu? Is that you?" Silence.
Taking hesitant steps closer, hearing soft growling noises from the messy hedge, Could it be Natsu? , I stopped in my tracks, seeing the shadowed figure rise from the bushes, a sudden ear piercing roar echoed throughout the forest, giving me a horrible jump scare and falling backwards. It wasn't Natsu. Not at all.
The furry creature crawled, in a fighting-like stance, dark eyes staring at me as if I'm fresh meat. A sudden force struck me in the stomach, the feeling of pain screaming inside, my body flew over, smacking against a tree as my back came in contact with the hard wooden trunk. Feeling the horrible pain running up my spine, I landed, face planted on the ground. Groaning, I looked up, a bear.
Quickly, I shoved my hands into my pockets out of desperation, trying to get the smooth feel of my keys, only to realize that I left my celestial friends at home. Why at a time like this? Time for my backup plan! I then reached for my whip......which didn't seem to be there. No! My whip too?!
Staring at the angered bear, walking towards me to lunge another attack. I hurriedly leaped over to another bush to escape the hungry bear, my little 'stunt' caused my back to ache from the tree and I laid on the floor in shrilling pain trying to figure out another way to escape the situation. I can't believe I'm going to lose to a bear, I am hopeless. I laid my hands on my stomach and gazed at it, seeing a blood stain on my shirt.

The furry creature gave another horrifying growl, prepared to stab me in the stomach with his glistening sharp claws, as it's paws thrusted towards me, I squinted my eyes shut, ready for the abhorrent pain to be pushed into my stomach once again.
"LUCY! GET UP!"
I jerked, that voice. My eyes fluttering open tiredly, seeing that the bear's movement was stopped and was letting it's attention wander off to a cherry head boy, his hair all messed up that haven't been showered for days, his clothes all worn out with a bit of blood stains on them along with little rips. "Natsu!" I gasped. His tanned skin had a bit of dirt, to my surprise what he'd been going through.
"Stay away from Lucy, you fat furry bastard!" Natsu growled, clenching his fist as he marched on towards the furry creature. Salty fluid welled up at the corner of my eyes, seeing my pink head hero in front of me now, he didn't have the gentle, happy expression, no. He had the face, fully consumed with anger, his eyes squinted, but by his dark pupil, there was a living fire burning in his eyes.
With a bursting speed, blazing flames engulfed in his hands, speeding and throwing a cross, thrusting his rear hand at the creature's head, forcing him to roll across the ground at a great speed, crashing over the shallow rivers and bumping it's injured body into a tree.
Natsu, who was in his fighting stance, slowly reverted to his normal stance. It's Natsu. He's here. But he looked a little different. More crimson colored scales formed on his skin, the scales were taking over a quarter of his face, a small scaly tail waving just above Natsu's bottom and his temper seemed a bit short lately.
"Natsu!" I yelled out, sprinting towards the cherry head and encasing him in my arms. "Thank God! You're alive!" Full happy tears were cornered in my eyes, my arms wrapped around Natsu's disheveled body. Though he looked more monstrous than the last time I saw him. Natsu is Natsu. The cherry head dragon slayer.
"Lucy, why are you here?" The cherry head asked. I looked at Natsu's dark eyes. Replying, "I was looking for you..."
"You shouldn't." Natsu muttered, shaking his head in disapproval. With his soiled hand, placed open palmed at my back, he pushed me forward. "Come on. You're going home." Due to him walking beside me, it seemed he made the decision to walk me home, especially since it's dark and girls like me shouldn't walk around at night. I stayed speechless, I didn't know if I should deny or accept, in the end, Natsu walks me home.
I gave no response, I gazed at his serious look on his face, it was intriguing, enchanting type of expression that I could stare at for a while, stopping time as I did. Then he and I proceeded in our walk, seeing that his nose wrinkled every time, trying to catch the scent of the town.
Sticks and leaves gave out a little crunch sound as our feet sink into the earth's surface, it was quiet, quite a comfortable silence in the air as we walked. I heard Natsu mutter under his breath a few times that the smell in the forest was preventing him from catching the smell of the town uphead.
I looked up, seeing one of the milky way's extensive arms hanging on the pitch black darkness in the sky. I shifted my gaze from the sky to Natsu, seeing that his eyes were focused, sniffing out the distant town smell, then my nose started to wrinkle as well, due to a horrifyingly awful sick smell I didn't notice until now. "What the- what is that smell?!" I cringed.
Natsu stared at me for a while, his lips then raised to a smile and then gave out a deafening laugh, making sleeping birds hiding within the trees fly out, screaming out yells and cries. I gawked at the cherry head, my mouth hanging open and my eyes so wide it might fall out of their sockets. "W-what....you..."
"I was killing a little rabbit and while I was removing it's organs, I found this yellowish balloon...it was pee...and it kinda squirted at me!" Natsu roared in laughter, allowing himself to fall onto the ground, pointing at my reaction. I could only mouth out, "T-then when I hugged you..." Raising my sleeve, I sniffed out a vulgar gruesome stench, causing me to yank the jacket off me and smashing onto the ground. "Ew! I got it on me too!"
Natsu staring at me, he roared in laughter again that I couldn't help but get caught in his laughter. A warm glow rushed through me, laughing it out with Natsu. It felt amazing, comforting and loving, as if we were glowing lights in this deep, dark damp forest.
After our long laughter died down, we continued our path to town.
"Lucy, I think this is as far as I can go. I can't risk going closer to the town" Natsu's cheering smile faded away into a frown. "Natsu....so you're not going to come back?" I wrapped his hands in mine and begged for him to stay, feeling my heart sink in disappointment and all the warmth consumed inside me dissolved.
"I'm sorry, please next time be careful and take care of yourself. I can't bare you suffering, I don't want you to be hurt okay?" Natsu showed me a smile, although I could see through it, it was fake, his dark eyes were frozen glaciers. The thought of Natsu leaving again after all that hurts, it hurts even more that I can't be with him. But I want to, I have to.
