Evangeline nearly shit her pants when Asher walked up to her in school the following Monday. She had been with her girls sitting at their usual table before they had to go to first period. They had been talking about their weekends, Evangeline and Charlotte excluding what they did on Friday from the conversation. Julia was in mid conversation when someone whispered into her ear.

"Happy Monday" the voice said. She spun around to see Asher there flashing his captivating grin. Her mouth opened about to say something, but then she remembered she was in school. She turned back to her friends.

"Hey guys, I'll be back, I have to call my... mom for something." All the girls nodded, and Evangeline looked to Charlotte. She mouthed the word 'Asher' and Charlotte nodded. Evangeline got up from her table, picking up her backpack, and walked outside.

"Sooooo, how's your day going so far?" he asked. They sat down on the pavement outside and took out her phone, holding it to her ears.

"My days been going great Ash, how about you."

"Same as every day Eva." he looked at her phone in her hand and realized that she was pretending to make a call, so no one would find it crazy that she was talking to herself.

"Good Ash, that's great. But did you literally forget the freaking conversation we had on Friday where we agreed not to see each other in public. I don't know about you but being kidnapped is not on my bucket list." Asher ran his hands through his hair.

"Shit. I honestly forgot. I just wanted to see you today. Sarah's MIA at the moment so it's been kinda lonely." Evangeline looked towards him. She felt bad that he basically had no one to talk to. He must be so lonely she thought.

"Ash, are you happy here?" she asked. He looked at her giving her a confused expression.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean like are you happy here, in this world, it must be kinda lonely being stuck here with few people to talk to."

"Yeah, I guess that's one way to put it. Sometimes I wish I could leave here, but then I remember that I have a purpose here. Someone or something needs me, and once I figure out what and solve it, I don't know if I'll be ready to leave this place, leave you." Evangeline looked to Asher, putting her phone down. She made a decision and tried to place her hand in his. Of course, her hand went right through his, but she didn't care. He looked at her with such passion.

"I'm always here for you Asher. And when your time does come that you have to leave, I will always think about you and never forget you." He gave her a small smile, but she looked in his eyes. They radiated thanks to her. They looked into eachothers eyes, when a sudden voice cleared their throat.  Evangeline shifted her head to find Ethan staring at her.

"Evangeline, who in God's name are you talking too?" She racked her brain for an explanation, but then remembered her phone.

"I was uhh... on a call duh" she shrugged her shoulders casually, but Ethan raised his eyebrow.

"Your phone isn't on and you're not even holding it." Shit, she thought. She had forgotten she placed her phone down.

"I just got off the call that's why, the phone was on speaker."

"Well I didn't hear anything." Double shit.

"Well mind your own business" she stated. She needed this kid to leave. Like seriously, how come he's talking to me, he never talks to me she thought.

"It's like you were talking to a ghost or something" he laughed. Her insides froze. Did he know something?

Ghosts don't exist Ethan. Now if you'll excuse me," she got up from where she was sitting, "I have to go to class, and so do you." She walked away without a second glance at Ethan. Asher stood up as well, and followed Evangeline.

"Bye Eva. Dont respond, but I'll see you later." She gave a short nod, signaling that she got the message, and walked inside the building. The pair both went their separate ways. The one thing that they didn't notice, was the black van that was parked in the school lot. Ethan had stood where Evangeline had left him, and took out his phone, dialing a number and putting the phone to his ear.

"It's true, I just got visual confirmation," he said into the phone. He turned to the black van and nodded. The van had tinted windows, but Ethan knew they had gotten the message loud and clear. He listened to the voice on the other end of the phone.  "Yeah, she didn't suspect a thing." Another pause. "Ok, tell me if anything changes." Ethan hung up the phone and walked into the school, slipping into the crowd of students.
